If you don't use arp or chord it doesn't get in the way, so I don't get the "trimmed down" bit? I think he should just pull one out of the bag and find a way of re-implementing old simult and qlink, then almost everyone would be happy.

yeah i know. but should old simult conflict with other xl features, xl could stay as it is, and then you could switch between the newer os's more easily than having to reinstall each time. i mentioned it first in reference to those discussing switching between 2 and xl by reinstalling the os's . to select between two os's at power on , would need trimming to work.

I think building on an already excellent os is a better way forward, and seeing as XL is the flagship, I see no benefit to JJ personally in going back over old versions and tweaking them to suit a few people. The way people are kicking off about features they want (or are missing) I can see JJ abandoning the entire process. That's not good.

that's a matter of perspective. i personally think os 2 is the 'flagship'.
my flagship is more powerful than your flagship.

i got a whole petition of users who wanted improvements to os 2. more than just a few. and we all offered to pay him for them. i still think that this is something that is going to happen.

if JJ can make some 'tweaked' os's for a small upgrade fee, i always felt that this would be a win for everybody. more money for JJ & more happy users.

but the IDEAL situation would be to get everything happening together in one main os. i would love to see 2xl with old simult & the functioning q-links, pattern mode, etc... AS WELL AS all the arp & chord stuff. nothing removed & everything all in one package functioning together. i think it could be possible but JJ hasn't figured it out yet or it is outside his programming abilities. i think to get all this stuff working together JJ might have to go in and recode some low-level Akai stuff that all the JJ os's were built on.

this could be very difficult or time-consuming for JJ. remember he was just the junior programmer on the original Akai os, an assistant to the main programmer. JJ has done a lot with what he has but some of the low level stuff might be a bit too hard. a perfect example: the FX1 to FX2 routing bug which JJ says is 'unfixable'. of course this is fixable but perhaps that aspect of the code is something that JJ doesn't understand very well or would take some some extensive low-level time-consuming work to redo some basic Akai functions.

I think in an ideal world that's what we all want. I would definitely like the additional power of 2, but with the refinements of XL.
