Getting beats made with an MPC1K and a keyboard to the CPU??

its prolly been asked before, but i must ask again (sorry). i got a keyboard (casio wk 3500) and ofcourse the mpc 1k. i got the mpc hooked up to cheap stereo system i own, and i let the keyboard play out of the built in speakers. so i know the MPC is just sending the midi signal out to the keyboard, and no actual sound transfer is happening, and i know im sequencing my drums on the MPC and thats the only sounds coming out of the MPC.

so basically, i either need to figure out a way to play the keyboard directly into the MPC, or a way to have the CPU record both the MPC and the keyboard simultaneously.

just some bg info, i have a soundblaster live value soundcard, with normal analog ins and outs, i think theres one line in, and two line outs, a mic jack, etc...

any tips?

pick up a simple mixer (unless you plan onusing a mic, a line mixer will do). You'd need 2 stereo channels, though you'd do yourself good to get a 6 channel or 10 channel.

For what you need, you can get one for less than $79 USD. Easily find one for less than that.

yoooo, im looking up that tascam joint... but i got a few questions for u, cause as im reading about it im seeing i dont really understand all the termonology.

-do u know if the tascam usb jumpoff would provide better sound quality transfer than a mixer?

-and what exactly is the use of the midi ins and outs on a system like the tascam. like what would be accomplished by me connecting my MPC into the midi in or whatever?

u could track midi sequences from the mpc into ur pc with the midi port. i personally dont use it but it can be done. i just record the audio through the TRS line in ports. far as i know, even if u get a mixer u'd still need an audio interface to record the audio into the pc. it'd be perfect for what u want to do though. either that or the mbox. i myself need more inputs right about now so im looking for an upgrade

You could skip the mixer for now and get a better sound with 4 inputs that way you could record the MPC in stereo (left/right) and your keyboard in stereo too, simultaneously. If you keyboard isn't stereo then you've got 1 extra input which you could record one of the MPC's indepedent outputs with. I think this would be better than putting a cheap mixer in the signal path which is only going to degrade your sound which will then be recorded by a not-so-good sound card.
