There are lots of threads that touch on specific things - like sample handing, storage - rather look there, there are too many differences for you to expect a complete answer in one thread. Compare the specs, cos there are some things the MPC1000 does not do (by design) like chopping, timestretching, and you can't attach a ZIP or CD (no reading Akai CDs directly).
It's a different way of working, Akai seem to assume there will be a PC or Mac close by to help with those things the MPC1000 can't do - which works for me. We see moans from people who bought a MPC1000, expected it to be just like a 2000XL, and those threads get shut down by the moderator, because there's no point. So keep an open mind, do your homework, and you'll be OK...
