Marion SCSI out of stock!!!

For those who dont know already, the Marion SCSI is out of stock.

I think im almost ready to get the marion scsi interface, I went on Roger Linn's site and I read this:


Regarding the Marion System MPC-SCSI Hard Disk Interface

NOTE: As of March 1, 2009, Tom Oberheim's Marion Systems has stopped manufacturing the MPC-SCSI due to diminished demand. However, he'll make another batch if there is enough demand. If you definitely wish to purchase one at for the former price of $300, email us to let us know and we'll add your name to a waiting list. When the list grows long enough, Tom will make another batch and we'll contact you.

I sent an email to be put in the list.

So if any of you want to update to SCSI on your mpc60's then please send an email so you can be put on the list and maybe they'd make a batch of scsi boards.

Yep, sadly enough, I believe most of us around here have heard the terrible news. Another one bites the dust, like Korg and Ensoniq.

I asked Tom if he could make a bunch more and sell them for $49.95 but he was less than eager to do that. Doesn't he understand I'm trying to sell SCSI drives to people and it's harder to do that without a SCSI interface in their sampler.

I think there would be more demand if they weren't $300 a go.
Since I started looking for them I've seen other people try to finf them every other week or so.
Tom knows he's got us by the balls.

Is that possible? I mean to make one for less than $49.95? Then why are they so expensive? Can somebody come and copy the PCB get the parts and make one?

No, it isn't possible. I was trying a feeble attempt at humor and I won't be giving up my day job.

I doubt that he makes very much profit at all on a sale price of $300. Building boards that use older components like that and building them by hand is very time-consuming and not very profitable. The guy at EPR Electronics told me that even though he has all the parts to make another batch of ASR-10 SCSI interfaces, his profit ended up being about $40 per board, hardly worth all the time and effort. I expect Tom is facing a similar prospect. It's very nice of him to offer to build another batch at all.

For info, when I posted what I did, I was not refering to any of you guys, I meant the fact that the scsi is out of stock is gay.

Tom should probably just release the PCB files and Bill of materials so those few left that want to go ahead and make one can. I don't see a downside to that since the demand is gone.

I'm sure a DIY-solution would be alot less than 300$

Damm, I have around 200$ saved up for the SCSI interface LOL LOL this shit always happens to me

I have to say it is hard to imagine the materialcost being mroe then 150$ though.... but that could be me

Damn now I am thinking I should buy this MPC60 MK1 I found with 3.10OS & Marion SCSI in almost perfect condition for $750.

Have a little respect people. While everyone is asking him for the design of the MPC 60 SCSI card, can someone pry out the secrets behind the OB12 and DMX while they're at it?

Yep, this guy is a legend. I had an Oberheim 2-voice back in 1979 (I had to save up for a year to afford it) and it was unbelievable. For you youngsters, this was back when we had to program the synths ourselves, onstage and usually during the song, while we were still playing the other keyboard parts. You dang whippersnappers and your "presets".

Oh I know Tom, he is even coming out with a new version of the SEM
