totally weird recording/overdubbing behaviour

I've been trying to add on to a sequence which just had stuff recorded on one track by recording onto another track. the way I thought this would work was I switch to the track I want to record on, hold down overdub and play when I want to start recording, and hit stop or overdub again to stop, and everything would play back as I recorded. instead...
- nothing I just recorded plays back until the sequence has cycled through again
- if I record a second additional track, parts of both recordings do not play back again
- when I start playing back in the middle of the sequence stuff that wouldn't play otherwise plays back, but when it gets to the beginning only the first measure plays back after that.

is there any combination of stupid and incorrect actions and settings which could make this happen or is my mpc just broken?! so confused...

do you have any pads muting other pads?

no. this was just messing around with something totally simple, i had just like 3 samples assigned in the default program.

ok after reading all the bug stuff on this forum a bit more it seems like the best way to solve this is to replace with an mpc 1000... anyone else had this problem though?

Save yourself the money and just change your voice overlap from poly to mono.
And make sure if you have your bar count set to 2 change it to 4.

huh, the voice overlap makes everything play back eventually, but there's still the pause before it plays back what was just recorded. on some tracks the sequence has to cycle through before it plays back and on others it plays back immediately. I tried recording on one track, pressing overdub to stop, and then switching to a different track and recording on that... after recording on the second the first recording stopped playing until it had cycled through but the second one worked immediately.

maybe you're off beat my dude no offense, but if you are and that's the case start out with like a 1/8 quantize see where that takes you from there.

For the record though sometimes I like to just turn quantize off for my beats until I want to add triplets or something. You can get real creative with it man just invest some time in it and play around with it.

I probably am off beat but why would that make this happen? does it have to play through to quantize things?

try quantizing to 16ths at 50% first, then after that quantize to whatever setting you desire and see if that helps.

I called support and solved this by re-initializing and reformatting the flash card. feeling pretty stupid and awesome.
