Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Ok read the manual a few times but still have a question.

My goal is to have a sample on a pad play until i hit another pad and then it stops and the new pad sound play etc etc.

I know about
POLY: which allows overlap which i dont want
Mono: which does half of what I want but wont stop the first pad if the second is played
and
Note Off: which mean I have to hold it...

I also know that I can click Open window... and assign 2 pads to turn off a pad, but is that the limitation?

I want no matter whick pad i press to stop the sound of the current and play the new shound... I saw some youtube vids and it seems like it is possible but I am not sure if it is on the 2000xl

I will repeat, I can edit the option and only allow 2 other pad to stop it, but i want the whole thing

You're almost there, press open window on the POLY/MONO/NOTE OFF feild and hit a pad. You can see it comes up with a note number. Press the pad you want it to mute, remember the number for this note. Press the first pad again and cursor down and turn the jog wheel until you get to the number you remembered. Yes you are limited to 2 but this shouldn't be a problem. If you want everything to mute everything else just use NOTE OFF and hold it as long as you want. If you're getting weird spaces or notes held for too long go into step edit (main Screen F1) and scroll through the events (bottom 5 grey buttons to navigate, GOTO + EVENT < or > will let you move through your sequence) then change the duration number until it sounds the way you want.

Yeah I thought that should have been a feature also... however I dont believe it is.

The only way I can think of doing what you want is to figure out your sample combo or melody or what ever and then mute the proper notes. that or go into trim and highlight (move the start and end points) of the samples in question (dont need to push edit afterwards to delete the non highlighted) just highlight the bits you want and go back to mainscreen and push the pad sequence again. then when you adjusted the samples properly to your taste so the end just as you want to push the next sample you can go and make the change permantly.

Damn I thought this was going to be easy...
I saw someone on youtube with the MPC 2500 looking like they were doing it...

Do you guys know if this is a feature on the MPC 1000 and 2500?

Thanks for your help.

The thing you've seen on the 2500/1000 is mute groups. Not available on the 2k

My solution for this without using note off is creating specific mute notes.

Sample 1 - Simultaneous play Sample 6.

Sample 1 cuts off Sample 2 and 3.
Sample 6 (whatever sample, vol:0) cuts off sample 4 and 5.

Link more to cut more off (if you've got spare bank space)

Not possible on 2kxl.

Get more into your manual and deal with the actual options ur given.
Learn them, combine them to get what you want, it
still may not happen EXACTLY like you want though.
