def piranha, the drums were way more intricate than bang, and i was diggin the vibe, plus in my opinion bang sounds too much like a Dilla track, I love Dilla but I feel piranaha was more original.

both were good, but piranha seemed more of a work of art..
think about a piranha and listen to it.. its awesome....... lol

i disagree i would definetly call Bang more of a piece of art
and say that piranahs ( which i really dont see the name linking to the trackm not hatin)
is more of a showcase of skill with deadly switch ups

Like Pound, i'm still weighing this one up before I vote.

Piranha is definitely more my style, but Bang rocks out nicely. My favourite sound of the two is the synth line in Bang (love that sinister melody), but it has to be said that the ending is sloppy at best. That is where Piranha is more crafted and produced in my opinion.

Hmmm... if 'draw' was an option i'd be hitting that and calling for a rematch!

i'm glad somebody around here has got enough sense to pick up on stuff like this
you people lauding "Bang" as a work of art are just crazy
if it was DJ Shadow track it'd be called "out of tune and off time"
i'm not hating just to be hating, either
that kick is all ugly and clipped off, throw that on a wav editor and i'd bet money you can see it flat topping even through the rest of the mix
and the last 35 seconds of drums are a completely embarrassing off time trainwreck of a mistake.

It was a really cool composition and deserved to have a more live and acoustic sound, i think the sounds used were a little flat feeling and i lost interest.

The bang beat was just really polished and had a great vibe and sound that tied it all together. It was interesting and original and kept my attention.

if you think you're a producer or something, step your critical listening game up
otherwise, you need to pack it in, homeboy
there isn't anything polished about clipping kicks and off time drums
drop that str8fyre club banger on a real dance floor and watch a whole room wtf when they suddenly can't find the beat to move to
or go ask a dope rapper whether he likes to spit over off-time drums

Both beats were great. Nice job guys, I voted for Piranha but it was really close.

Nym - I love the overall mix and the consecutive open hi-hats at the end of every 8 bars - sounds clean. Plus it's really on time, which is great considering the guitar sample had to have been difficult to get in sync with the midi clock or however you went about it. I'm interested in how you made your drums because the overlaying hi-hat on the kick sounds like the same hi-hat as the rest but it's tuned different, hit different, timed different sounds kind of open, kind of not- did you chop a break that had hit-hats over the drums or layer them yourself? You can PM me if you'd rather, I'm just a bit curious - it sounds good. I can hear how you layered some of the other drums because of the occasional drops, I just can't hear that one.

Murph - Nice beat. I disagree with the comments on it being off beat at the end. I mean, I know it's technically off-beat but I love the swing on those hi-hats. I agree that the kick might have too much punch and not enough ooomph, but that's a small point to criticize. You throw some Steve Miller Space Intro Chops in there or is that all your own synths or a different sample? Sounds good. I think putting another loud, new sound on the one after the breakdown and right after the 'bang it out' sample when everything comes back in would be killer. Like a Dilla Siren, but something else that's original.

Ok, so I listened and I listened and I listened again. I gave it to piranha.

I liked bang...A LOT but I had a hard time hearing a song on it. Granted a dope beat is a dope beat but without lyrics it’s not a song, just an instrumental. Bang was a 10 as an instrumental but I couldn’t picture it becoming a full blown song and to me a beat that cant be a song is kinda pointless. Just my 2 pennies

Now for piranha...granted the recording was a little rough around the edges but the programming behind it was real slick. I like the switchups on the drums... they were obvious but natural. Its also a versatile beat. I was able to picture different types of songs being written to it. The bassline was dope too. I personally would have used a different bass but the choice of bass wasn’t so bad that it hurt the track. I just felt like it added to the mud a bit.

All in all it was a nice battle. I heard two different styles that came out swinging and both hit hard in key areas. Normally I would blast the weaknesses but there weren’t all that many. Just little things that really didn’t matter (some of the audio quality, clipping, timing, choice of sounds).

Nice ear, but, nah its not the steve miller, its from some moog record, It reminded me a lot of that steve miller joint though which is why I chose it... I didn't think anybody would pick up on that, its so low in the mix.

Next beat i post will have an outro, Damn, y'all are SUPER critical. I was expectin' complaints about ish like, the sample was wack, the beat was wack, U suck, I didn't like it, etc., but the kick is clipping??? Do u mean its too loud like over-modulation or some s*hit??

Clipping... The volume is going over 0dB d0od. Check your meters, ha.
