I must have the appropriate cables. I've got a cable that goes from coaxial digital to stereo 1/8" jack.

It depends which output board you've got, the Akai one or the MUTEC one*, as to whether the MPC's digital out is a phono or standard jack. As the DAT machine, CD burner & digital mixer I was using all had phono connections I went for the Akai board. It is easier to find proper digital cable with phono to phono rather than phono to jack. An ordinary audio cable might work but it is better to get a proper digital one.

*There were some recent posts about the difference between these two boards.

not too sure which board i have. the md has an optical input but a 1/8" jack fits in there.

If the MiniDisc only has an optical digital in it won't work with the MPC's digital out, which is either going to be SPDIF or AES/EBU. You can get boxes to convert to different digital formats but they aren't that cheap.

The standard pro audio optical socket is the square one I think was originally developed by Alesis for the ADAT machines. If your MD's optical socket is the size of an 1/8" jack it is going to be a domestic hifi type......I think Sony & Sharp etc. each have their own specific sizes for these & should do adaptor cables to go to other sizes of optical connector. Whatever....don't go sticking an 1/8" audio jack in there because you might be damaging the lens!!!
