Good point, I have a PNY memory chip and I get the odd drop out. But the memory test always completes 100% with no errors.

Anyone else?

I have had sound drop outs months before I got my non-akai memory upgrade, thus there are other factors that need to be considered.

if some people experience this and others dont while running the same OS, wouldnt that point to a hardware fault?

i think that it would just mean the os is unstable and sumtimes its fine and sumtimes it fails i dunno how it could be a harware problems all the hardware is circuit boards n shit theres no moving parts ,my opinions kinda useless here this aint my field but thats whut im assumin, whatever it is im pretty pissed nuthins been done about it ive had my mpc for like 3 months this shit shoulda been fixed, they should start callin themselves akai ameature

ok this problem with samples dropping out has not happened to me yet. But can you give exactly what is going on when this happens. Are the sample assigned to the stereo outs or any sample assigned to the individual outs? How many tracks are you using, how many pads are triggered in a track? How many sequences are you using? How many bars in the sequence where the problem occurs. I just want to try to troubleshoot the problem before calling akai. If I can recreate the problem on my machine then we can see if it happens to all the 1000's or just some. thanks

All Hardware isn't identical, most OS's of the same revision are.

There are faulty chips, diode tollerances that can be way off, bad solder joints, so many things that can vary in the hardware that could cause these kinds of problems. If everybody has the problem then it is likely software, but if some get it and some don't, it would appear that akai got some batch of parts with tolerances on the low side and thus some units have these glitches.

True !

That could also be an explanation for the units that are getting excessively hot.
Maybe there's a link between the hot (or "cold") MPC's and the not-triggering-problem ????

I never heard of differently behaving software. I strongly believe there's
a connection between used hardware parts and/or revision numbers and
this problem. If every unit contained 100% identical hardware AND everybody used OS 1.05, EVERYBODY would observe the problem.

My VirusB also comes in 2 hardware revisions. AccessMusic explained
in a textfile that came with the OS, that Motorola changed a chip from
R to S or something. Consequence; 2 OS editions from that moment on.

An official statement from AKAI like "OK guys, we recognise the problem
and we are working on it" would be nice...

Well if their is something wrong with the power supply voltage it could cause problems like this. Tech heads should pop them open and read the voltage output and maybe temp of the case bottom near the PSU.

Since they all have the same power supply and switching power supplies can be problematic (it has a switcher right? not linear?). Anybody have schems?

i kept a sequence playing for aout 10 minutes with no drop outs. Does it happen sporadically or almost always for you guys?

I have the oficial Akai 128 expansion, and have never run into the drop outs...nor have I run into the lagging 16th notes that someone was bitching about.. i even did the little test that was described.
