MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

Scenario:

I load 10 programs with 64 drumsamples each into memory which takes 30 mB for the 640 samples

Then I start MPC in order to record.

But scrolling between the programs takes considerable time...
if I turn the scrolling wheel a little bit to go to the next program, it takes 1 sec.
If I turn the scrolling wheel a lot to go to the last program, it takes 5 seconds + my screen freezes (sequence keeps playing but all info on the screen is frozen) + sequence slows down so MIDI sync is lost.

I'm on OS2.0.
For me this is a big issue as I work as following : load a vast library of sounds , then scrolling through the Programs to look for the sounds I want.
I wonder what will happen if I load 190 Mb of samples !

Does anyone work this way and/or can someone check if he has the same problem ?

Confirmed!

I got the same thing before where the timing would slow down when scrolling. I can't say if it was too many samples loaded or what but it is random because it does not always happen. OS 2.0 is sluggish in general and that has been reported in the bug thread. The other weird things that occasionally happen with timing may or not be related. BTW I do not have the extra RAM installed.

too bad then...
+2000 euro machine that should be able to handle 192 mB of samples allready slows down and gets out of sync with only 30 mB loaded, jesus what a poor implementation

is there anybody that actually can use the EXM128 then ??

for who might be interested...when I load exactly the same project+samples after installing OS1.2, it becomes very clear that the 'slow responseness' is completely due to OS2.0. In 1.2 I can go from one program to another, do copy/paste actions etc without loosing sync.

i tried it yesterday only for testing:
had about 8 prgs. loaded, most of them were keygroups from akai s3000 and 1 drumprg.

then let a sequence run and changed the progs from one to another.

you are right the progress seems a bit slow (with a delay) when it changes from one to another prg., but it seems the delay is only on the LCD. you can hear the sounds from the other prgs. prompt, but seeing it after 1 sec.

weird?

i absolute agree with all that the os2 needs some little improvements

to the positive things:
i NEVER had a crash, though i use normaly all 4 fx busses (some with more than 1 fx at a bus), bunch of samples, midi out to external gear etc...
and the timing seems also very stable

for those who would have exactly the same problem : I downgraded to 1.2 which made things better. Yesterday I gave 2.0 another chance to see if'it's really related to that, and now I don't have the serious lagging I created this thread for (more sluggish then 1.2 but not as bad as two weeks ago).
So re-installing the OS might sometimes solve strange issues (that seemingly no one else encountered)

So just to confirm, this only happens whilst the sequencer is actually running (in play)?? If i press stop, and scroll down a few programs then it will do it fine correct? (i may be able to live with that, for the short term..)

OS 2.0 is sluggish in general when changing parameters no matter if it is stopped or playing. Sometimes, when playing and changing parameters it will get worse and I saw it slow the playback while changing parameters. This only happened a couple times. Usually that does not happen. It probably has to do with what settings you have or what is loaded in RAM or something.

Damn.. Thats a shame. Lucky i asked. I was pretty much ready to buy one, but i think i will wait now..

Whats the deal anyway?? Has Akai said anything about plans to fix all these problems with OS 2.0? Makes me kind of uncertain about buying such a machine if i dont know whether things will be fixed for sure or not..
