You're welcome!
First things first.... The terms can get a little confusing when you're just starting out... For example a PROGRAM is something that controls the params of your sounds, such as the attack, the delay, the tuning and the filter.
The DRUM (that you have to choose when you go into the program mode) doesn't really mean a drum.. It is a holder where you can have up to four programs at the same time, and you can change between programs easily. You have four DRUMs that can all have different programs in them, but I suggest you just use one DRUM for a while. Do not bother your head with this stuff yet, just concentrate on the basic stuff first and then once you know the basics it's a lot easier to understand all the other stuff!
A SEQUENCE is basically the beat or the one part of the beat you're working on. In the SONG mode you can make the sequences play in the order you want, thus creating a song..
A TRACK is something you record you're instruments on.. For example I usually have the bass drum on track one, the snare on track two, the hihat on track three, bass on track four etc etc. In any sequence you can have up to a hundred tracks if I remember correctly (I'm not sure?) playing simultaneously..
So if you'd want to have a loop playing first without the bass and then with the bass, you should record the basic loop to, for example sequence 1, then copy it to sequence 2. Now you have two sequences that are identical. Then add the bassline to the second sequence and voila, you now have the same sequence without the bass (sequence 1), and with the bass (sequence 2).
The timestretching on the mpc isn't the best quality. It's good enough for me, but I tend to go for a low-fi sound anyhow so I like the dirtyness... If you have a computer close to the mpc it could be easier to transport the samples to it and timestretch them there. Might be more easy, depending on how you like to work!
i'm kind of in a hurry because I'm leaving work in a moment, so if this makes absolutely no sense then maybe someone else can give you clearer answers? Oh, and the manual should be your best friend for the next few weeks.. Take it to the toilet, read it before you go to bed, take it to work (or school) and study it there... All this info is in there, might be a little hard to dig up but it's still there.
Gotta go !
