mpc 1000 with midi keyboard (Korg X5) problem

sequence 1:
first i record a drumbeat (drums from memory card) with the mpc on track 1
then i record some melodie with the korg on the mpc on track 2
when i want to record some other melody on the mpc track 3 with the korg and i am switching sound in de korg, the melodie what i already recorded on track 2 in the mpc with the korg changes when i am scrolling to look for a new sound in de korg.

first question; how do i need to connect the Korg to the MPC with midi. Some say only "Korg OUT - Mpc IN", other say "Korg OUT - Mpc IN - Mpc OUT - Korg IN"

second question; how can i record several melodies with the keyboard on different tracks in the mpc without te problem of switching recorded sounds.
(When i change the program in the mpc at track 3 i can scroll to look for sound in the korg without changing the recorded sound in track 2, but, when i record the other new sound from the korg on the mpc in track 3 the sound in track 3 is exactly the same as the first sound i recorded in track 2. The korg is also connected to my mixer so i can hear the new sound when i play it, but hearing the same sound from track 2 after recording on de mpc)

This is a tuff problem for me; i've checked many tipic's, tutorials and ofcourse manaul

Alright... check it out. Do exactly what I say and your problem is solved. I'll try to be as clear as possible. Keep in mind I'm not using a mixer for this setup. JUST the Korg and the MPC. But the principle will be the same.

CABLE CONNECTIONS:

1. MPC midi out A to Korg midi in.

2. MPC midi in 1 to Korg midi out.

3. Korg main outputs (left and right for stereo) to MPC RECORD IN (left and right).

4. Plug in some headphones so you can hear everything.


MPC SETTINGS:

5. Select an unused track on the MPC.

6. Choose MIDI instead of DRUM where it says TYPE.

7. Turn PGM to OFF.

8. Hit the MODE button, then hit PAD9. This brings you to MIDI/SYNC mode. In MIDI/SYNC mode, hit F1 to bring you to the MIDI tab.

Select ALL where it says Active track receive channel:
Where it says Soft Thru: select AS TRACK.

9. While still in Midi/Sync Mode, hit F2 to bring you to the SYNC tab. Since you're using the MPC as the master and the Korg as the slave, you can turn SYNC IN: to OFF. Where it says SYNC OUT set it to A. This is so your MPC can send its Midi Clock out of the MIDI A OUTPUT... which is the midi output on the MPC that you should have run the midi cable out of. The Korg will use the MPC's clock to keep in synch with the MPC.

10. Now hit MAIN to bring you back to the main screen of the MPC. Hit MODE and then PAD8 to bring you to MIXER MODE. Hit the F5 button to bring you to the INPUT tab. At the top left corner of the screen turn INPUT THRU: to ON. This is so you can hear the Korg through the MPC's outputs or headphone jack.

Okay, your MPC should all be configured properly now... But seriously, I'm pretty sure your issue is with the KORG settings. But I had to include that first part because if that isn't set up right, then the solution I'm about to tell you won't even matter.

All good synths are multi-timbral, which basically means they have the capability of being able to assign different sound programs to different tracks... which is what you're trying to do. You do this by using Multi Sets.

What you gotta do is use the Multi Mode setting on the Korg. If you don't put the KORG into Multi Mode, then it won't know which sounds you want to use for which track... so you got to manually set it up. I use a Korg Micro X and there is a button that says "MULTI". I'm pretty sure on your KORG it's gonna be called Multi Mode too.

But FIRST... From Global Mode set the Multi Mode to be configured for an external sequencer, AKA the MPC. It should look something like this: Multi Mode: for Ext-Seq. Also turn Local Control to OFF so that JUST the MIDI data coming from the MPC will trigger the sounds. If you leave it on... the notes are gonna be repeated because the KORG and the MPC will both be triggering the KORG's sounds.

Okay, now press that MULTI button on the KORG (or figure out how to get to Multi Mode if you don't have the multi button). Once in MULTI MODE there should be a PROGRAM tab... or a PROGRAM PAGE. Here in this tab you should see 16 different tracks/channels. You can assign a different sound program to each. Such as track 1 playing drums.... track 2 playing bass.... track 3 playing helicopter sound effects, or whatever.

Now from the MPC main screen, put the cursor on Midi: (bottom right corner of screen... just above SOLO) and scroll through 1A to 16A. Each channel will play whatever you assigned to that track in the KORG. For instance... if you set the MPC to 3A, and hit some keys on the KORG.. you're gonna hear those crazy ass helicopter sounds you assigned to Track3 on the KORG. Go ahead and record some of these helicopter sounds to this track.

Now select a brand new track on the MPC and set it up exactly how you set up the last Midi Track. Now cursor back down to the Midi: field and select channel 1A. Hit a few keys and you hear your Korg drum sounds. Press play and you still hear the helicopter sounds recorded in the last track, which is still set to midi channel 3. Now hit PLAY/RECORD and record some drum sounds. When you play back your sequence now... you'll hear helicopter sounds and drum sounds at the same time, both coming from the KORG.


Okay, well I spent way too much time on this... haha. Blame it on the Adderall!!! I know I probably gave you a lot of info that you already knew... not trying to talk down on you. Just wanted to include it because it might help some other people out who are having similar issues.

the discription of stickyrikky was very helpfull at some points, but because of this older Korg model (X5) this synth likely works a lot different then new models

the settings for MODE/PAD9 Midi and Sync were very helpfull.
also the information for playing from multi mode is important.

In my case (Korg X5) i only need to go to multi mode and change the midi channel with 'PAGE-' and 'PAGE+', then automaticly in the display at the top right stands T01/T02/T03/etc. then per channel i am free to change te sound.
The midi channel T01/etc. communicates with the mpc 1A/2A/3A/etc.
Other settings are not needed in my case.

Glad my post at least helped push you in the right direction. And I've heard the microkorg isn't multi-timberal... but don't quote me on that. You may wanna check out the Micro X instead. Just a thought.
