Automatic Start Points

If there is a bit of silence in the beginning of a newly recorded sample, is there any way to have the 2000xl automatically find the start point?

I know it doesn't take long to do it manually/graphically, just curious if I can save a little bit of time.

On something like the Yamaha SU700, no matter how much silence in the beginning, it always assigns drums with the perfect start points.

I know, but I'm thinking if you set it to sample when it "hears" something, it might actually cut out parts of teh beginning.

in my experience it wont cut off the begining... but the one thing I found was that it doesn't always start to record automatically... sometimes it starts late on soft sounding bits.

That "bit of silence" can come in very useful if you don't want your drum hits to be too rigid.

I dont find this function very useful for this. You can try and try with different threshold and prerecord or you can use this time to cut the sample manually. I tried it with many threshold and prerecording settings and couldn't get a working setting. Of course it also depents on the material and acting different. Especially when the soundsource is the turntable and you will have to press record in the "silence" right before the part you want to sample starts. In this case the silence isnt silent and can cause a false sampling start.

But if you want to sample a synth or a part you start from your computer it could work.


I like the auto startpoint option in my s950 thou You can sample with the silence but when you set the startpoint you can increase the AUTO parameter (value 0-99)and it will search for the next transient (kind of).
