Ok ive used both the MPC2000XL and the MPC1000. And i have to say i prefer the 2000Xl over the Mpc1000. I myself own a MPC1000 but after using my friends 2000XL for the last week am thinking i will switch. They both hav egood points. It REALLY just depends on what you will use it for. If you Travel alot and want something portable go for the MPC1000. The 1000 is also good because it works VERY well with a computer. So if you use computers alot the MPC 1000 is good. But on the other hand the 1000 is VERY buggy and lacks alot of classic MPC features. So its basically up to you. I also feel the 2kxl is a little more proffesional and sounds a little better....But then again its more expensive...

I'd go for the MPC2000XL.
Yeah, you can't hook it up directly to the computer, but thats what the disks are for... to transfer/load/save samples.
