a quick ? about my 1000

what up peeps, i have been a 1000 user for a while now... but i am thinking about getting my first keyboard. But if i want to sequence on my mpc (which i want to be the brain of my studio) wouldnt the mpc have to be maxed out as far as ram and memory. Becuase i would be playing sounds from the keys and saving them on the mpc. Wouldnt that kill the memory ?

you should max out the ram regradless to the full 128mb since 16mb doesn't give you much room to play with...

but in reality you wouldnt need all the extra memory if you were just sending midi signal to control the synthesizer rather than actually record the sounds... if you do want to sample the sounds from the keyboard into the mpc [which i prefer doing personally]... then you would most likely want the additional ram... you can find the chip for cheap on ebay... it doesnt have to be akai brand.

I understand the ram part... but are you saying that when i get a korg or which ever keyboard i get.. and i play sounds in to the mpc it wont use any memory becuz the mpc is just triggering the sounds out the keyboard?.. in other words if i make a song using nothing but keyboard sounds and synths.. and sequence it on the mpc, and i unplug the keyboard... the mpc wont play those sounds anymore?

You are correct.

The MPC can use Midi to trigger external hardware. The midi sequence will use some memory, but it is pretty inconsequential compared to the memory usage of samples.

So... you could sample your external hardware and then you'd just need to take the MPC with you if you wanted to hit the road

Or

You could just have the MPC trigger external gear which will save you a few steps of needing to sample, but then you'd need to bring the MPC and external gear if you wanted to show your beatz to grandma.

thanks for the reply... i think i finally understand it now.. just one last thing..

Say i use the midi in the mpc to get the sounds out of the keyboard, and i got it all layed out and sequenced up. That midi would still take everything they way it is on the mp and transfer it to the computer when i track it out track by track right? I am saying like its not gonna skip ova the keyboard sounds becuz they actually arent in the mpc ? ( sorry for my terminology lol)

just get reason. its the perfect combo!

midi cables won't record "sound".. they only send and receive midi signal not audio. MIDI and audio are 2 separate things. you'll need to learn those basics if you want to properly incorporate other hardware into your setup.
