scsi connectors for 2k and 2kxl are different.

most likely it will work... you just have to get the correct cable. i assume the CF enclosure has a centronics port? if so then just put the centronics to 50pin d-plug scsi cable on it.. email them and ask.

why? there is an external scsi port on the back of the xl... all you should need to do is put the right cable on it so it attaches. no taking apart required.

well if you 100% want scsi.. then i suppose you could go with that one... lol, but that kind of money for a cf drive is rediculous. I just threw in an ide drive that costed me under 3 dollars INCLUDING shipping... haha. I did however have to do some work to mount it but saving a decent amount of money justified it.

it's all on ebay...

just look for compactflash to ide adapters ... most of the time they are from china and cost buy it now $1. dont get the twin or double cf readers that you can put two cf cards in... unless you want to try one... i dont know if those will work.

whats specs are we looking at here? i want to put one in my xl,but i'm really debating this , i have had my XL for 10 yrs i did all the work on it but, this will involve changing my OS which i don't want to do;cause i have had no problems wit it.

voodoo ppl told me he did this to his and I'm just researching now to see if i really want to do this.

how can you make sure that the cards will work with these drives so i don't install and then find out i cant buy CF cards for that drive? feel me?

whats the longest you guys leave on your MPC?

i mean i leave mine on for weeks at a time and sometimes i don't even turn it on for months ....my floppy and and my zip have been reliable since day one,
all tho a faster work Flo and internal storage is great, but i don't know if it will all equal out to no hassle that i have right now.

is the cheapest way the way i want to go or should i pay for a top quality drive that will work, but what spewcs are we looking at . how many have put this drive in and how is it working out?

Peace Eddie,

check out this thread:

Contains pretty much all the info you need. I don't remember having any problems switching OS or so...you could always change it back using an external SCSI drive. And don't worry about CF cards, most of those you get will work.

this is the one i bought... and it works fine.

I bought two different types of cf cards... a kingston 1gb and a sandisk 1gb.... both work in the machine.

you must install OS 1.20 before putting the cf reader in the machine or else it WILL NOT detect the reader at all.

I was running OS 1.14 for a long time before this upgrade.... and so far I have not noticed any differences what so ever except that with OS 1.14 it can not see the cf drive.
also, that whole thing about partitions.... who cares. that is why you create folders on the card.

Here's why we care about partitions. If you have a drive bigger than 1GB, with 1.2 and its inability to see the partitions, you cannot access more than the 1GB of the first partition. Not a problem if the IDE adapter is going to be your only storage device but if you wanted to use any external drives bigger than 1GB, forget it. Personally, I see that as kind of a big problem but it will just depend upon each person and their storage needs.

i know what partitions do and why they are prefered for the sampler...

but it is cheaper to buy 50 1gb cf cards then it is to buy a 250-300 dollar scsi card reader and a couple of multi-gig cards.
