Diggin for Gold, so am I

Whats up peeps.

1st of all thanx for chekin this out.

Now im new to diggin and all so i need a lil advice from the experienced ones here.
(or in fact anybody)

there is this dude that lives a few houses down from me selling his vinyl. he is asking for 75p per vinyl, things is i dont know much about what to look out for so wondering if you'd help.

this list is provided below.

would be grateful if any1 can spot any good ones in there to let me know.

cmon man! you cant ask people to dig for you son. but a lot of those joints are good records. ill give you some of my *personal* tips

1. i usually dont buy stuff from 60's or 80's. usually i just buy 70's stuff.

2. look for instruments used on the album. horns, strings, flute, all that stuff is good.

3. look for player names (you cant really do this yet because you just started but if you find something good take notes of the players names, especially in jazz because alot of those cats played on multiple records.

4. this one will help you a lot. look for record labels. anything on CTI (i think most of those bob james joints are on CTI hint hint) thats the only one ill give you for now, just if you find somethin good take note of the label its on and itll help you make decisions in the future most of the time. (stuff like columbia put out a lot of stuff in a lot of genres tho so labels like that are hard to tell)

man just look, a lot of the dudes records are nice. look for stuff with people rockin afros on the cover. or stuff with trippy artwork.

also pick up that steve miller band fly like an eagle joint. theres a nice drum break on there. theres more records he has with breaks on them but i cant give them all up. just dig and dig and youll get better. btw i wish i had that list of records to choose from! got a lot of stuff im still on the hunt for!

forgot! also youtube! that site has helped me SOOO many times. look up DJ Souliva or DJ Kool Breez. they have tons of videos with records on them so i learned a lot from there (wat i learned for example was like i would see a record that they played with a hot joint on it but i know i woulda never picked it up myself because of the artwork or what have you..so now i know to look out for it u kno) just keep diggin son you'll get bettttttter.

i am happy to send shit to peeps or upload samples from the records that you may be after. for example a particular album or track i will upload it for ya to use.

dont limit your creativity to one decade,open your mind to many types and yrs of music .... theres so much music out there,

research this forum theres aot of good info on here trust that

When digging through records with artist i don't know i go for the covers. From time to time a record with a cool cover will be total shit, but it's pretty rare for a record to have an ugly cover and be really good.

So go for covers you find interesting, pile them up. The flip them over, check:
who's playing?
who produced?
what's the instrument setting?
what year was it released ?
what genre does it seem to be?
How long are the tracks? jazz/funk/disco etc. tend to have long tracks like 7minutes and up, pop stuff usually alot shorter.
What are the titles ? Are we talking titles like "Gimmie that funk" or "missing you baby"

If you find a record, slightly psychadelic cover, produced 77, 3-4 track each 9minutes and up. This guy on electric bass, that guy on clavinett, that other guy on minimoog. Titles are something like "outerspace groove". Well, then you know it's going to be awsome record.

another thing is back in the day when there wasnt such HUGE record companys , minor labels would try and stick to one type of sound and style ( like underground music today ), so search for labels from artists youve heard befor and have used, just a few pointers that have helped me out.
