chopping on the xl

I had a chopping question. When you guys chop manually on the xl do you go into the trim mode and take your pieces you want to use and save that sound and put it to a pad? or is there another way to do this? I am a newbie looking for some advice. I have looked on youtube and searched the boards. I want your guys input on how i would manually chop a sample up.

The manual also shows you what chops are.

I know what a chop is. I wanted to know how you guys go about chopping it up manually. Do you take a chop and save it as a new sound and lay it on the pads manually?

Manually, automatically, via sound forge, depends on how I feel that day.

Trim mode then zone. Set the play x to zone and use f6

clean up samples into one shots, the infamous zone/slice, also an old school one that has always stuck with me ...

record in your signal and then make copies of it. for example i will sometimes trim the start of the sample to every new sound i hear and then copy it, and trim to the next sound on the copy. Once copies are assigned to pads i will turn them to note off and then will have access to each sound that happens through out the sample. On the xl you may have to trim your tails and discard a certain amount of info because of memory issues but thats how you freak it! Good luck.. There are many technics and my best advice is get good with all of them.

word zone /slice is the shlt, learn to use it and you'll have fine chops,
i tend not to use the margin and prgm it cuts alot finer,you just have to listen to every chop before getting chopped
