New owner of used MPC 2000 XL chrome special edition.

I just purchased the Chrome/Silver SE version of the Akai MPC 2000XL. Has a nice look to it.
Anyways, everything seems to work great with one exception. The Dang 'Main Screen' button does not seem to work. I always have to do SHIFT - <function> to get me where I am going or hit the STOP button, etc.

I have another MPC2000 XL unit that I did repair the slider on and I noticed the 0, 2 and enter buttons as well as F2 dont seem to work. Therefore I cant do a SHIFT LOAD as well as other functions like SHIFT MISC and use the F2. What gives with this.

Keep in mind though on the Special Edition unit I havent done anything to it. Everything worked as should with the exception of the Main Screen button not working. Is there something about these units where certain buttons just stop functioning. I notice the plastic buttons can break easily, but the case usually will still hold the button in place for it to make mechanical contact.


Any help will greatly be appreciated.

i had this prob with my 2kxl a few yrs back take it apart take the pads off and the buttons and spray it with air, it helped mine out i havent sprayed it in about 5yrs,it's time cause i feel some buttons are not starting to respond.or i'm not hitting the button right sometimes.

readjust the buttons again .thats what it sounds like mine may have the same thing i press it to much to one side just out of habbit

Yea, I am not really having a problem with the pads per se.
My problem is more with the 0,2 and enter button not responding at all. I am due to replace the sensor pad under the rubber mat, as I do have one pad not responding. However I have 4 buttons not working and this is more of a concern to me.

It's not the plastic button but the tactile switch under the plastic button that has appeared to stop operating. I also had the F2 button stop working.

This is a pain because SHIFT 2 is SAVE. so I cant save anything. There are also some functions with the F2 that are very important to be able to do. Of course the enter button is extremely important.

Today I contacted VST. I emailed [email protected] and was told that the part number I needed was ES-349474. Their parts seem to be much more reasonable than MPC-Stuff. I just ordered a slider from MPCStuff and could have gotten the same slider for $10 instead of mpcstuff.com's price of $15.

I have two of these units and plan on buying a third. They are fun projects to give some TLC and then sell to someone else so that they can buy a machine that has been fully restored. Of course they are very delicate and you have to know what you are doing and have an attention to detail. If you dont have experience soldering and doing a clean job at it, you should certainly have a service repair man do it.

Do you have a picture of this MPC? I've never seen one and my search didn't turn up any pics. I'd like to see if it looks as cool as it sounds.

That's exactly what it looks like. Got if for under 5 bills.
Except my number buttons on the left side are not purple.
They are a medium blue. Guess the previous owner didnt want purple or maybe there were two versions of this SE3, who knows.
With the exception of the 'Main Screen' button, everything works great on it except that the black 'stop' and 'play start' plastic buttons need to be replaced.
That's just cosmetic.

Scsiforsamplers, I have spoken with you on the phone. I am the hackintosh guy. I need to come by and get some sounds from you. Job has been very busy and hectic. I haven't done the card flash reader upgrade yet. I am a little leary of sinking some money in a Zip drive. I am hearing they are not that reliable. I think it's better to invest in some great sounds and use the compact flash as the medium to move sounds back and forth, at least that's what I am gathering from this site.

I cant remember who it was, but I read a posting on here who recommended working with vstservice. I just ordered some parts there, and they have great prices and are great to work with. I am overhauling some MPC 2000 XLs I have and vstservice.com is a great place to get parts. Just wanted to say thanks to this site for the lead.

I just picked one up (the SE3) for about the same, two things are wrong on it; the power button is missing, and the NV slider needs to be replaced. I took the 8 outs, fx, and Card reader from my old one an swapped everything out, Almost G2G.
