Recording by yourself

Any tips on laying a vocal by yourself. I figured out that I'm going to need a headphone amp to run an extra set into my booth. But it doesn't have a window. I'm using Sonar. Maybe a footswitch to punch in?

set the red markers for the record section. press record a couple of bars before. i record myself all the time

Are you close enough to the 'puter to see where you at in the track? Or do you use a footswitch or something?

im a couple of feet away. on the other side of the room. even if u were in the next room. start recording like 16 bars early..gotta do what u gotta do

my ghetto ass way of getting vocal tracks in sync when recording without midi or anything is to put the mic right next to a speaker or the headphones when i start recording and get a bar or so of the beat. after all is said (and done) then i can manually slide the vocal track into place, and then i trim the beginning to the nearest bar.

like vakseen said.. record early and haul as$ to the booth so u got time to catch up to the beat.. most of the people i know that record by themselves use this technique

That's what i do, it is definitely the most sensible.

the only draw back on runningto the booth and shuting the door is that the mic picks it up.

but you can cut all that out the vocal track!

thats why i said set the auto punch...for JUST the verse

I agree, but i would have put it more like:

certain of the two legged homonids that may have been created or perhaps evolved on an unremarkable planet they call Earth have tendencies, or perhaps desires, to do things in a manner in which there are superfluosities, extraniousnesses, and additional steps which are not really necessary to the doing of the thing, whatever that thing (or things) may be.
