There is nothing wrong with that. But digging for ur own drumsounds can give ur production style more depth.
It gives u better foundation to create ur own significant sound.

Yea I see what ya are saying. I wish I had a turntable and some knowledge on what vinyls to even begin looking at lol. >_<

Does anyone know of a must have site to visit to get some drum samples and such. I found a topic or 2 which contained a LOOOONG list of sites. I save the list but it's so long I don't even know where to begin. I'm sure there's just a small handful that are worth looking at...

i dont mean to sound like a prick... but do you want us to come over and push your pads for you?

the whole point of owning a sampler is to search for stuff to put in it. You dont feel like trying random records... you want to be told what specific records to get. you dont want to even click any of the links and download some of the free samples.... you want us to tell you which specific links have the best samples and you want us to tell you which ones to download. Do you want us to tell you what pad to assign the sounds to aswell?

Check for yourself... get your own opinion of a good sample.... and do some of your own work. that way the finished product will be your material.

Location: UK Being creative with any sound you may have is the most important thing. A lot of people who sample from vinyl exclusively are doing nothing original or creative, so don't feel you need to dig to be part of the game. Being able to make your samples sit in a mix and sound like they came off vinyl is way more impressive than simply sampling a record... assuming what you're doing has a vibe in the first place of course.

U have to learn how to dig for samples anyway. On the net, sample libraries or vinyl...
After a while u have ur own type of sounds u search for, and u'll know where to dig for it. But first u have to find that ish out and discover it by just doing it. No one can and should tell u what kind of sounds u have to look for and/or use.

Oh I've already searched through a bit of stuff online. I'm not expecting anyone to make my library of sounds for me by telling me what to get. I just made this topic for people to share some opinions really. So I, and others, can maybe be aware of a few things we weren't before readin this.

But yea, I tried downloading a bunch of free drum samples. Ya know, kicks snares and things. I went through a bit of it and assigned a bunch to the MPC. I ended up not really likin 'em too much though. I prolly should spend some time and make a bunch of different programs so I can have quicker access to more.

I would like a turntable but I really am in a tight situation money wise. I'll just have to rely on stuff from online right now. :twisted:

U should really check out some second hand stores. One time I needed a tt quikly and bought one for 10 euro's. Doesn't have to be a technics 1200 or something.
For the time being u can practice ur layering/ filtering and other tweaking skills to get the best results out of the sound u have at the moment

So what's your point exactly?? ???

My point is you don't have to sample from vinyl to be creative or make good music.

Hey man, I had some vinyls in my life and I hardly spent money on it. Last half year I've borrowed about 250+ vinyls and I still have about 100 to listen.
You don't see a big deal about vinyls. I used to think like you, but when you are able to get what you want from vinyls it is the point where fun begins, plus when you are looking for something certain you might find it, really. On the other hand while diggin you may find something that will make you stand up and say: WHOAA that's the shit. Also I use to learn from vinyls, not only looking for samples, but when I find a great song I listen to it and analize. Sometimes I find an idea that I'm not able to do or never heard it. So I listen to it and anlize how it was done. That's about vinyls. Just want to add I don't want to use vinyls only, but I don't belive in librarys I belive in instruments.

regardless if your gonna sample them or not, collecting vinyl is fun man. Get out there, get dusty and learn about music.
