no sound coming from pads

YO,
Im new to the site and need some advice.
I've had a 60II for a couple years and recently picked up a 3000(v3.11).
It samples fine and I can assign the sounds to the pads.
When I go to the main screen the pads don't play any sounds when I hit them.
But...the sound plays back when i create a sequence and the loop repeats.
This makes it impossible to program in real-time....
I've raised the pad levels in the mixer screen, checked the manual, and still no sounds....
any ideas?

Try Full Level, make sure midi local mode is on.
