having one sound stopping another sound

another newbie question. here goes...

Is it possible to stop the playing of a sound with another sound on the mpc4k. It is a technique which simulates the open close effect of a hi-hat. You can do it on my mpc2k so I am sure the might 4k does it. But to be sure can anyone who owns the 4k let me know.

Use MUTE GROUPS in the PITCH page of PROGRAM mode.

Yeah.... is it the mute groups....


you can set all of your drums to mute group 1 and then set your samples to mute group 2 and so on. this is a cool feature. you can also set one of the pads the the assigned group and turn the volume down in the mixer screen. this will give you a pause or ( no sound ) as well
