I'm loving the Blofeld but I think Waldorf is a bit like Marmite..you either love the sound or hate it with Waldorf gear, I agree there are so many cheesy presets but some are ok if you tweek them.
Edditing like with most Waldorf gear goes deep and you got loads of options to mangle your sound...the two filters thing can confuse some people too.
I used to own a Micro Q few years back but I never realy liked that one, when I played my friends big Q and XT I was like WOW, also I realy like the PPG and XT wave table sound so I thought what the heck..I was going to get a big XT but kept getting out bid so got the Blofeld but I don't regret getting it.
If you like deep pad sounds, digital/analogue hi-brid and wave table kind of things then for sure it's a winner, the analogue modeling side of things aren't that bad either on it but I wouldn't buy it as an analogue modeling synth...
Don't know how it would fit with hip hop..for that I would still hunt down some cool mono synths or even a Pulse but for Techno, Deep House or electronic music in general it's a shure winner and adds a nice change to tracks from the usual analogue synths..

^^^^^ That doesn't make much sense to me, I thought the blofeld was a micro q in a nice fancy new interface. Same sound engine, no? I liked my micro q but had to sell all my hardware. I like the Waldorf ethos though.

It's patch compatible up to a point with the Q and Micro Q..but the oscilators and filters sound better...more refined, also the OS ain't buggy

It also has the PPG filter as well as the clasic waldorf one which the Micro or Xt didn't and some other stuff...It's an updated micro q of many kinds I guess and thats how Wolfram from Waldorf also describes it. You also have all the XT and Microwave wave tables which the Micro Q didn't have it only had the alt 1 and alt 2 things which the Blofeld also includes..
The oscilators have a brillance control to set the brigntness..you can make it sound like a q or a micro q oscilator
The only downsides to the Blofeld is this..no individual outs and it's 16 part multy timbral!! a bit lame, no midi out and no audio input...other than that it's a winner.
I want my old Pulse back lol and I stil want a XT and Microwave 1
