500 to 1000 upgrade..?

Hey, I have a 500 but I'm thinking about selling it and get a 1000. The main reason is that I guess that the workflow will improve a little, and since I love making beats but don't have plenty of time, that really matters! And, of course, I'd use the JJOS...
My questions is: how compatible are they? I have lots of complete and incomplete beats on the 500 and I don't want to loose them... Will they work on the 1000? What happens to the missing (or extra) pads?
I'm guessing that I can use the same 256mb RAM that I got on my 500...righ?

Yep. The same RAM also works in the MPC 2500 as well.

Allright, about the RAM that's great! But, about the projects, can I load them on the JJOS? That's the main problem, as loosing my beats is a turn-off to making the switch....

i did not know that about the ram.. i thought the 1000 maxes out at 128mb?

The 500 also has its limit on 128, but to use a non-akai RAM, you need to get a 256Mb one

Yep, just last year-- Go for it. Aside from the screen and extra pads, you also get the incredible JJ OS and MUCH louder main outputs. You'll be able to salvage your existing beats, with a bit of effort (wait until you've decided on an OS before doing this, they vary).

The 500 is pretty much the "gateway drug" of MPC's.

Yeah this MPC is the devil...

But what do you mean by "salvage"? Like, if you're talking about saving the samples and re-construct the beat on the 1000, that's like a year's work....
I intend to use the JJ OS and I was hoping that it could read the "project" files that I have on the 500's CF Card...or at least the programs and patterns...

Salvage was a strong word-- it will be more like proof-reading. The midi sequence will be fine, but you may need to adjust things like filters, volume levels, note durations and cutoffs... etc...

just do the upgrade... you wont ever regret it. and you most likely won't be able to load your old mpc500 projects onto the 1000 with JJOS, so you're better off just starting clean as far as that's concerned... you can still load all your old samples though. not even projects i did in JJOS2 will word in regular JJOS... so cross compatibility isn't likely.
