Making CDs with the following equipment...

Whats up all?

I have a 2kxl , XP-30 keyboard, Nanobass mod, and a Terratec Phase 26 USB sound card and a small Behringer MX602a mixer. If I want to record this all into Cakewalk Home Studio XL or FL Studio and burn discs, can I record the MPC via Midi straight into the soundcard/software to accomplish this?
I have several beats on the MPC, mixed with some midi tracks from the Nano and XP in some instances (just some sequences or songs in MPC-that play back fine in my monitors), but can't seem to get them to be able to record in the software programs. Any hints on what might be missing or something that I am doing wrong? I am afraid that either the midi is hooked up wrong or the equipment is not hooked up right into the Terratec. Your thoughts and input are greatly appreciated.

If you want to record your song to a CD (as in the audio) Then you don't need to record the midi in your pc but the stereo output of your mixer.

indeed - use an audio lead and plug it into the sound card input. that might help.

midi does not actually carry sound.

Its funny...I am still having a difficult time with that concept to an extent even though I have read midi books etc. The Terratec uses RCA plugs, not 1/4", so I guess I need to get different cables and run them directly into the sound card and bypass the mixer? I guess that the software will be able to record what was done on the MPC as sound and anything direct from the XP-30, but not really the Nanobass module then, unless I use midi. This whole concept is like learning a whole new language. I get frustrated when I have the sounds in my head and in many cases, theoretically, the sounds already laid down in some seq on the mp but still can't get them to the software to play with. Hours and hours of banging my head against the wall. Fortunately this forum helps a lot.

Midi = sends information / messages not audio as mention


The BSK you should have the Stereo Out of the MPC going to a channel on the mixer and the Main Out of the Mixer going to the Input of the soundcard.

Depending what kind of sound card you have you may need a 1/4 or 1/8 adapter

THats actaully how I haveit hooked up, but my damn Terratec doesnt seem to be working correctly and the **** thing is brand new. I have the main out hooked up to my Terratec Phase 26 USB and it goes from 1/4" on mixer to RCA (line level) in on the sound card. The sound card seems to work at one point and then doesnt at other times. Has anyone ever used a Terratec or the Phase 26 specifically before? I have heard that the RCA is generic and the better way to go is 1/4' to 1/4" like on an MBOX...the only thing is supposedly, the Terratec does more and is more powerful with 24/96 vs/ 24/48 on the MBOx. This **** thing is driving me nuts and I am near throwing in the towel with it and trying something else and eating the $200 as lost change...but I dont want to do that.

did you set up the inputs in the program ur using to record?? everytime i record into cubase i have to choose the inputs im gonna use..

Yes and also check in the mixer program of your sound card whether the input is turned on... with a lot of sound cards this is thurned of by default.

Thanks...turns out there is definitely an issue with the audio device not being correctly fully recognized by windows xp...I strangely can hear ther faintest of sounds through my monitors though, which makes me think it is something that is wrong with the routing out of my behringer mixer then?

actually, what you describing can even be a Windows XP sound card driver
issue

check with the manfuc. website of the soundcard and see if they have an updated driver for Win XP.

you might be able to reinstall the driver and hear the sound blast loud as you want!

doin it slow motion in the NO...I feel ya cash...but I have already visited website...done the research there...actually have contacted seller for some tech support now to see if that leads me anywhere...we spoke briefly but still no luck officially....Dime...
