yo, since I'm getting pissed off at the pads and the sequencer, have any of you tried using this strictly as a sound module? Like controlling it via MIDI through an MPC with some MIDI keys.

It works great that way.

That is originally why I bought my first mpc60.

when you take the strain off of the sequencer, the asr-x really shines as a SAMPLEr.


you still have to use the pads for assigning samples, you cannot assign samples with the midi keys.

I used the 318-ENC160F-24P encoder, the one mentioned in the instructions is obsolete.

And also I had SCSI on mine, but most of the time, I just ended up recording the ASR tracks into my 1k as audio tracks, and not saving any samples on the ASR. So I rarely used the SCSI.

Hi guys, was searching info about the ASR-X and stumbled across these forums.

Anyways a few questions

People say the sequencing on these are a bit dodgy because the processor can't handle too many processes at once, if the ASRX was sequenced from another hardware or software sequencer would this still be an issue? Is it any good as a stand alone workstation?

MP3, how hard is it to get that encoder you're talking about? I have a chance to get one with upgraded ram for $150 Australian (which is about US$117) but one of the encoders need replacing. I've got no soldering skills at all.
If that encoder is easy to get i might buy the ASRX and try and see if any of my mates can fix it

Anything else good or bad i need to know?
