Seeking Professional Help

Hey i am thinking of getting an MPC1000

I play in a post rock/sub pop type band

i Have a Mac with Protools and MBOX, Reason as well

I am looking for a good drum machine that i can make
interesting beats with, as well as sample things
I dont want just the typical cheesy rap album drum sounds
which i am sure are among the presets in this machine...

Any Advice??????

I do the same kinda music, aswell as hip hop. I like using the MPC1000 for it. The drums on it are nice sounding, but I like recording my own kits. I find it to work for me.

there are some ambient and rock drum kits on it............

youd probably be better off sampling your own kits or buying one of those sample cds.

ive never tried them so i wouldnt know the quality of hte drums

Yes, you can't beat the MPC 1k for a drum machine. I had a few sample cd's, including Steve Gadd. The entire cd, for me, was useless, as all the loops were too busy, but at the end of the cd, he hits single drum shots from his kit. It's those shots, when sampled, that allows you to then OWN his drum kit. That alone, is worth the money, however, I've found the samples offered (free) by Hollow Sun, and others, to be even more interesting. Sometimes I feel that there's too many choices, and that can also be a problem. It's possible to drown in the freedom of it all.
But to answer your quesiton, it is UNLIMITED in what you can do. You just have to use your imagination.

how does the mpc work as a sampler?

works great for drums and drum like sounds(one shots). Loops? you can do it, but maybe you shoudn't base shows around longish loops, because there has been some issues. As far as sounds that you intend to play keyboard style, you can do that as well, but it takes a bit more work to make kits than, say, an Akai s2000 or something.

To clarify, by loops, I meant looping longer, multibar samples. It works fine in looping phrases that you tapped out, midi-wise.
