if hip hop is meant to bring all types of music together and form new pieces, (ie sampling obviously), why do beatmakers and producers keep it a secret who they sample?
i mean, from my P.o.V., i want to sample people i look up to and enjoy listening to. so i would gladly show who the sample is from in my beat, that way my listeners/friends, whomever, will be able to know who the artists being sample is, and then can proceed to listen to their music as well.
why keep it a secret who you sample. im always hearing people say, " naw man, naw man, i cant tell you..."
unless im missing something, please enlighten me.
(unless they want you to dig the record yourself, but if your a normal listener, chances are, your not going to go through the trouble to find out...)
