adat expansion

I was wondering if anyone knew if it is possible to have two IB-4ADT expansioncards on the MPC 4K?
It would make the mixdown a hole lot easier...

That's actually a good question. Probably not though. I wish it had 16 Outputs as an option as well. Akai made a 16 Output I/O card for another one of their products called the DPS24 called the IB24ADT 16 which actually had 16 ins and outs as an ADAT Option. I always wondered if it would work with the MPC 4000 though. VST (Virtual Sound Technology) Carries them as well as the one that was actually made for the 4000. If you talk to them or find anything, let us know - Reub.

By The Way, How do the ADAT Outs sound to you? Are they comparable to the Analog outs ? - Reub.

The S6000 has 16 analogue outs as standard. I've never used them all yet but it's good to know they are there.
16 outs on the MPC4000 would be killer though. I've seen nothing to suggest it's possible mind.

No 16 outs on mp4k.

No, it's not possible. It was a major design flaw by the designers in Japan. AKAI here in the US urged them to correct it prior to production.

I thought they did it on purpose to force ones hand into buying a Z4/Z8.

IIRC correctly, the US distributor also tried to force Akai Japan's hand by advertising that the MPC4000 would be able to burn audio CDs, which was never intended in the design,
but since they'd put it in adverts,
there then had to be a mad panic to supply functional (data) CD writing,
which scuppered attempts by Akai to do what it SHOULD have been doing, which was fix the howling OS bugs.

At least some mild justice ensued when the US guys went bankrupt

how hard is it to fix some bugs? really?

it should be a 2-3 months wait, not half a year to 2 years.

I'ts a shame that it doesn't work with 16 out's(ADAT) on the MPC 4K...

Well, those guys fought for new features and bug fixes.

The major problem was that AKAI Japan had to many products going at one time and not enough programmers. They had the MPC4000, Z samplers, the DPS24, the V Z8, the MPC1000 was nearing production, and the MPC2500 was in the prototype stages.
