So I have a brand new MPC5000 that I got through my warranty with Guitar Center.
However, this one appears to be a dud as well!!!

It will not stay on longer than about an hour, without randomly restarting.
So I have to save my work every ten minutes, or whenever I record anything.
.....Some sort of power supply defect.

Regardless, Ive got the two year warranty, and they can give me a new one on the spot.
It's just a pain in the ass to pack it all back up and bring it back to Guitar Center.
Not to mention the principle is incredibly frustrating.

So Akai is now 0 for 2 at this point.
Its Obvious that they simply started using cheaper parts - HD, power supply and so on.

Looks like I will be writing yet another letter to Akai....

D@mn, sorry to hear that homie... i have had mine going on a year so far... and my only 2 problems have been, 1.) Freezing up from the old OS, and 2.) my pads sometimes seem to act funny, and i have to hold down erase when im powering it back up, and that clears it up... Sorry though Chris, i feel where you are coming from to have two crappy mpc 5000's... also what kinda enviorment are you leaving your MPC in, such as whats the air like in your home, studio, or etc... where you MPC spends most of its time?

Sorry to hear. Word is the 5k has a high defect rate. FYI. usually warranty replacements are refurbished units with increase chance for defects. If this is the case you may want to demand an A stock unit in light of the situation.

Sorry, i havent heard this... I remember one salesman coming on here a few weeks ago saying he had returned many, but as far as users on here, only a few had defect problems, besides with OS Bugs. I know about 7 cats wit MPC 5000's, all used in the studio hard most days, and none of em have had to be returned yet.

FYI, this was not a factory replacement. This was under Guitar Center Warranty, and I was given a new one in the box. I wonder if GuitCenter is using or was given a stock of refurbished units or units which were in some way different than usual?

My MPC 5000 is doing the same thing and I have the 2 year warranty with GC. To the OP, did you get a new MPC when you brought it in and told them this. My HD will not read either......

I'm definitely to the point where I want to trade this in on a Korg M3 and down the road cop a 1000.

My mpc5k display screen flickers solid blue and reboots. Sometimes it's ok and sometimes it act a fool. I called akai, but I'm out of luck because I'm passed my one year warranty.

So I strip it down to nothing and assemble it back together and it still act crazy. I have photo, if you want to see.

Thank God, I still have my mpc4k.
