Memory Cards Or Hard Disk What's The Best Way To Save Your Work

i like memory cards. it cant hold as much stuff as a hardrive but i like the fact that if theres a huge power surge or whatever lol idk, ive got this memory card with my data on it, separate in my hand. plus im too lazy and cant lay out $$ for a hardrive right now.

how can you say that 4gig disk can hold just as much as a 40-80 or 100gig hard drive? wierd you got magic disks I'll buy one.

i like hard drives. if theres a power surge or any of that i'll pull out the drive and plug it in to my computer, i'm not losin anything.

i don't need to bring my beats anywhere, and if i did, i'd just zip up the files and send em to myself through gmail.

I would feel crippled if I had to work without my hard drive now. Everything is drag and drop over USB, so it's super convenient and file sizes aren't an issue. I especially like auditioning and locating sounds from the MP while I have Cubase running, and to do that best I need all my sounds backed up on another hard drive.

just to clarify: memory cards are drag and drop too from within the mpc just like the hdd is. just select memory card from the usb screen instead of hard drive.

Just to clarify: last time I checked there wasn't an option to buy an 80gig CF card.

I use a card reader. Think i paid abt £10 for it. Got it before i got the mpc but it's had the most use since.

True, but you can get 32gig - 64gig CF cards, which are an option. 128Gig CF cards might be available within the year, though wether they are compatible with the MPC would be a different question.

At least you can put the CF cards in a card reader to transfer data faster. HD transfer over the USB 1.0 to the computer is pretty painful.

the reality is that both are very sufficiante for the job. but for me. my work at home is done on the hdd in my 1k. and i also produce with a partner who has the same setup in the studio. so when i go there i dont even have to take my 1k i just load my work onto a flash card and go. flash cards are made to be portable and rugged and they are. perfect for transport. but that hdd is loaded with more stuff than i could fit onto a 32gb card. which by the way is outragously priced for the amount of storage you get.
