Slow saving

Have found my MPC takes forever to save all the sounds on to zip disc via SCSI - any ideas?

Is it a 100Mb disc in a 250 drive?

If so they are slow as hell.

It's 250 zip discs into 250 zip drive. Can take up to 15 mins to save a programs and sounds - what could it be? Maybe a faster storage device would help

Im running zips and my programs up to full 32mb save in seconds so its not that.

Is this an internal drive or on a scsi chain?

In seconds? I've got the full 32 meg upgrade. I'm using an external iomega SCSI drive...it's literally only just saved my sounds and that took 20 mins! could it be it's saving the sounds again when it need not save them again? As it doesn't need to overwrite them as they are on disc.

No, theres something else up mate.

Try dumping the files off it onto a PC and reformat the cart.

ok I'll give that ago. how would I do that? Reformat the discs or the scsi drive specifically?

Id do it on your PC if you have one. Just do it dos and you should be OK.

If its not that, try another cart.

If its not that it could be a dodgy drive.

Do you have another you could try?

Unfortunately I don't, no. I have a usb one which I use to transfer samples from my mac. The Mpc is a bit of a love hate relationship at the moment. As you said it most probably is the drive that is playing up.

Just formatted the disc on the mpc and seems to have solved the problem - for now! Much faster saving programs and files

Id be getting some more new carts if I we're you though.

That cart may be on the way to malfunctioning.

The MPC is ace once you get up to speed with it. Its one of the best pieces of kit ever to see my house.
The EMU samplers are ace too, far better than any of the akai rack samplers and very cheap these days. They are like having a modular synth in the studio. Got three of them and use the MPC to drive them.
