Hey folks,

Been out of the game for a bit and have not been using my 1000 for AGES - I just spotted that JJOS 2XL is out and I decided its time I started using this little beauty again. I have to re-learn almost EVERYTHING so Im looking for advice please :)

First thing Im going to do is pick-up - Beat Making on the MPC1000 - then should I upgrade to JJOS2XL?

Im currently running JJOS2 0.84 - but remember Im starting from scratch again :)

Opinions?

Cheers folks,
Dave

I'm still a noob here, but maybe what you could also do is upgrade to JJOS2 1.22. By my understanding the upgrade to a newest version of the same OS is free.
I don't have OS2XL yet, so I can help with that.
Have fun, I'm having plenty!

OS2 -> OS2XL isn't that much different. A much smoother transition from that than Akai OS -> JJOS2

The manual that MPC Tutor offers is great, and you can fit it into the JJOS2/OS2XL workflow, but things aren't exactly the same. His manual goes up to the latest version of the free OS. You might be just as well off just JJ reading the website (even with the sometimes strange English) or checking out the forums for info about the new features.

Still, if you need to start from scratch and just need some lessons/examples MPC Tutor will get you doing stuff in no time. Just don't forget to do a little research/take notes as you find differences in how the OS documented works compared to JJOS2/XL.

Good luck and keep on rockin!

Thanks guys!!!

I was worried that my version to 2XL would be a huge jump!

Just got the 1000 Tutorial Ebook and looking forward to getting to (re)know this little monster :)
Might get it printed and amend things with pages from the JJ site. I was thinking also, if Im learning from scratch and being aware of the differences to JJOS taht I have - might as well pimp-out the MPC and get 2XL - its all new anyway :)

Thanks again!

Mixer automation was removed from OS2XL, and the Q-Link functions are pretty bummed up. Everything else is a pretty awesome enhancement at this point. Just depends on if you are going to flip out on missing a couple of features for a more streamlined workflow and a decent handful of enhancements/additions.

There are plenty of good arguments on staying at OS2 as well as staying on OS2XL. The benefit of moving to OS2XL is you can still go back to OS2 when you want to. Nothing stops you from making projects for one or the other, even though they aren't feature compatible.
