yo, this is my first post so go easy. I've been a drumer for over 10 years and have been inspired to try working with an akai (I'm almost 27, so I guess I'm a bit old to get into gear like this). just bought a used 2000xl off ebay last week with a few add ons,. I am completely new to sampling and have been trying some very simple things, like taking wavs of a tr808 and saving them to a floppy disc, then inserting it into the sampler and trying to program pads with the sounds. some of them work, others do not. the display will say disk error when I try to load any bass drum sound from the 808. I really don't know what to do. sequencing is beyond me; I don't really understand how it all works or what the sequencer even does. I've been trying to comprehend the instruction manual (that I had to download) and it's still a bit complex for me. I know nothing about tech specs or audio terminology; I'm just a simple drummer. if anyone has any suggestions or resources, please let me know. I really don't want to give up on this, with a little help I can do it. just need a push

Make sure the samples are 16 bit or less.

that is floppies for ya... often some samples just wont load. floppy errors... lol, I used to hate that. Never saw it again once I installed a zip drive (and eventually a compact flash drive)


here is what I suggest. get some brand new floppy disks. try loading stuff again... mess with the sampler and see if it is for you. if you find yourself getting into it then go out and grab a used zip drive. Just be careful because people are always charging a fortune for them because they know there is a demand for them for samplers.


and the sequencer is basically.. it records the button combos you do and plays them back... it's kind of like... you have drums and sticks and you are the sequencer.

man, I tried drumming and know that this is anything but simple...

the samples are 16 bit wav files. I tried a different disk, same type from the same pack. I inserted it into the mpc and formatted it, then put it into my computer and tried copying the same files to it. now my computer is saying that the disk needs to be formatted. any ideas?? right now my sampler is useless until I can figure this out

wanna know why it is called a sampler? because it can sample things..... I get the impression that some people around these forums never ever use the line ins... they are so concerned in getting the files onto CF cards or what ever.

use the sample feature of your mpc

yes, I understand what a sampler is for. I don't have anything to connect things (cd players or whatever else) to the mpc, so my only way of putting sampled sounds is by way of floppy disk. I didn't mean to make anyone mad

and hook it up to your computer... you for sure have a computer.

plug the headphone jack end of the cable into the green hole.
