(For Everyone)Just curious,How long did it take you to make your first solid beat???

seriously about a month cause i had a hard time comprehending the 1k being a first time mpc user with no experience. i remember it like 5 minutes ago i was so happy and i think it was off a old funkadelic and minnie ripperton vinyl.......ahhhh memories

like 6 months to understand how to build a beat. this was befo the mpc. It was mad frustrating too.

What do you mean by a solid beat... I had basic programming down pretty quick, but as far as mixin down tracks... Well I'm still learnin that... Compression and mixing in general is hard to get down solid...

yo i didnt know how to build a drum pattern. i had no idea about the boom bap, kick snare ish. i just used to loop ish on a cheap sampler then tried to arrange em. My first real sequnced beat took like a year to be able to do. Then i got my mpc and read all the ish here and now i can do em in 2 hrs like fully mixed down and tracked and finished.

When i say solid i mean like a beat you could actually listen to and be like yo this ish is hot.When you finally got it loopin right and your drums were crisp or as grimy as you wanted.A complete beat,more or less.

well...the first few beats i've actually been truly happy with..a few weeks ago. so it took me a few months.


i've made a beat but i'm having a hard time trying to decide how to take it further, because all it is is an 8 bar loop. but the thing is, i love that 8 bar loop so much i can just listen to it as that....and NEVER get tired of it!


i suppose it wouldnt really matter to have a beat thats an 8 bar loop will it..?

i don't think you will ever be totally satisfied
what yo think is a solid beat now, will probably change over time
otherwise you wouldn't grow at making beats you would jus be content and never try to improve

i would say you will always be looking for the next "solid beat"

what i thought was solid a few months ago, i can now see what needs to be improved and what i can keep, jus keep banging on them tracks man and always look for ways to improve, or else you will get bored

you will never be satisfied with your work/music/beats because if you make a hot beat today next week you will make better ones. just do it and see what happen.

I thought my sht was hot 3 yrs ago when I was banging out 8 bar loop keyboard tracks on the Roland D2 Groovebox!!!!!

All thre above comments are true... I think some shit I did as close as like a month ago is garbage... I got tracks that I thought were my best... Come a year later, I look back and what I consider to be some of my worst... You'll never be satisfied... Either that or you'll never grow

Stuff I thought was hot last year ain't so hot now that I review over them. I'm definetly getting better. The first beat i thought was solid took about 3 months. Really the key is to just sit down and make at least one beat everyday, whether its hot or not.

yup. if u aint feelin it just turn it off and start a new. Just keep bangin em out. Youll get better every beat.

well i have worked with an mpc before the 2k but drama poped off and i got mine like more then a month ago a 1k. well i made a beat that i was pretty happy with the first night i got it nothing big something simple then little by little i just keep adding to the beat its on my soundclick the title is "Untitled' but that is tru little by little u start to improve and ur old beats dont sound that good to u cuz u are startin to get better.

word i've had my 2kxl for 31/2 yrs now, and my beats r rokin now compare to when i started today i made two fresh a$$ beats .yeah i have improved since i started , but i'm always looking for ways to improve my beats i go over old and try to improve those beats .

i would say yeah always try to improve your sound and look for the next hot thing.
don't give up keep lookin to better your self.
