ok heres my problem I hooked my zip drive to my mpc 2000xl and I have the zip drive on ID 5 cause it only has two ID s ... Now when I turn my mpc on it reads the zip drive on ID 3 , to be real I dont care which ID it reads it on as long as it works. But than I put the disk in, the load screen where it says (type) theres Questions marks ???? so I guess its not reading the disks, their brand new disks so I dont know.....This the second zip drive I av tried and the other zip drive did the same thing it reads it on 3 no matter if I put it on ID 5 or 6 and when I put the disk in, it gives me questions marks. (I got a Omega zip 100 and my disk are [b]100mb disks) Is there a certain kind zip disk I need the or does any disk work is there like some zips that are pre-formated and un-formated..And of course since I guess it can t read the disk when I try to format the disk it gives me a error. So the mpc reads the zip drive on the wrong ID,When I put the disk in it reads that somethings there it just does know what I guess..If Anyone knows what the problem could be or has any adive or anything, help a brotha out Please cause this floppys are driving me crazy I got like a closet full of floppys......

Try to format your disk again and see what it does.I'm not sure but if you have like mac or pc formatted disk that could be aproblem. Also when you select your id on your mpc make sure that it goes to 5 or 6(whichever you're using.)So shut everything down then unhook the zip, hook it back up and then try again.By the way on your zip on the back does it have the id and termination switch?Give a shot and then post back.Sooner or later we'll get it right........Peace.

Also make the connection under the funny looking sign on the back which stands for scsi......dont hook it under the zip sign or name.......also go into the set up of the mpc and set your auto load to off but set it to scsi 5 this might help to make it right........also put the disk into the drive, turn the drive on before you turn on the mpc........

And like stryke said, we will get this working for you

Stryke i tried that its still doing the same thing and yeah on the back there is 2 switches one for id and the termination switch I tired it with the termination switch on and off...The only 2 kinds of zips I seen have the PC logo or MAC logo is there some with no logo like universal or something that I dont know about........And phatz I tired what you said too turn the auto load off set it to scsi 5 put when I go to format the only scsi that has the do it button( for format) is scsi 3 and also when I go to load and put the disk in there question marks still there where it says type, so it reads that somethings in there I guess just doesn t know what it is...I am pretty good at figuren stuff out on my own but , this I just can t figure it out I av tired just about everthing I could before posting on here, but I bet is like some little thing you gotta do...Keep the ideas coming or if someone knows what is help me out..

I know that when I used the external zip drive to format my zip disk it only took a hot second (okay like 3 seconds to be exact) but it was really quick.......anytime I put a zip disk in unformatted it would give me the ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? display by the disk type........the only other thing that may fix this problem for you is to re-install the Os for the mpc, this may help it may not but its worth a try........
Goto WWW.AKAIPRO.COM and find the latest Os for the mpc

Good Luck

Iomega zip disks come pre-formatted for either Mac or PC but you should reformat them on the MPC so it doesn't actually matter which type you've got........but then your MPC isn't "seeing" a disc in the zip drive to be able to format it.

On this replying page we don't get to see where you are from but maybe someone near you can sort out sending you an MPC formatted disk???

Two possibilities:
1: Bad cable between the MPC & zip? With all those little pins, if one connection is broken or a couple are wrongly connected it could be confusing the MPC....

2: Is it definately a SCSI zip drive? I'm remembering a recent post where a guy had sent a picture of the back of his zip & lots of us said it looked very different from ours. Does anyone else remember this & maybe they can put a link up?

I remember that kid with the pictures. He had a zip and a terminal adaptor or something like that but i don't remember exactly how he fixed his.I remember someone else who had a problem sort of like this also, the same as me.I was usin a parallel port at one point but it didn't have any ???? it just took forever to detect but it never would. All i can think of is when all else fails, get another zip. They got em cheap online. If you get a zip and that doesn't work try other disk also......Good Luck,Peace.
