problem with pcd47b and MPC3000

Hi all

i have an mpc3000 with 3.11
i connect a Microtech PCD-47B with a sandisk 1 giga card
i set the jumper to scsi number 6 and with terminator ON
i'm trying to format the cf card but as soon as i press format the mpc stops during partitioning the card....

the mpc recognize the format of the cf card and tell me it will make 26 partition for a total of 780 mega
does it take so much time or it is crash?

if i connect the cd card to computer i say one partition of 29 mega... so it starts to format.....

any help is appreciate

So is it formatting the CF Card very quickly, or very slowly and then "crashing" ?

The Smart Media slot on MPC60 (3.10) acts like this, and I am unable to save files to it.

I don't believe that the PCD-47b is compatible with OS 3.11 I seem to remember someone on here saying they could get it to Read files, but not Write them.

i try to formate with mpc editor and the mpc3000 now recognize the card and can load the program and sample... but can't save anything cause it crash or similar

I think you might need to update the operating system on your MPC3000 to Vailixi 3.5.

This then allows you to format in many different sizes and adds compatibility for different SCSI devices.

I can't recommend it enough there's also some other cool features like editing sounds when your sequence is running and more quantize functions, like 32ths and 16th triplets.

i try to save and format but i'm still not able to do that
the pcd47b is set with termination ON
the multi sector trasfer is set to off (from MAKE A SCSI HARD DISK ACTIVE)

i can't format the CF card....

i can read the formatted (from MPC editor) CF card and load program and all but i can't save....

what's wrong?

The problem is that your PCD-47B needs to have the fiirmware updated to 3.2. Almost every PCD-47B I've ever gotten was read-only until I updated the firmware. I think this is because so many of them were used in those Walmart photo kiosks and they didn't want people accidentally erasing their pictures and getting pissed off at the store, so they sent the drives out read-only.

i use the same of this picture i found...


the problem is that mine is so early serial cose, one of the first at all.. so i think it could have a different chipset or similar and that it doesn't work with mpc3000
with pc is perfect

Most PCD-47B types are ex photo kiosk units from old KODAK style self service stations.

Some are physically clean but a bit tired.

Note ...

The MPC3000 main 5 volt supply line is capable of supplying 2.00 AMPS of current for all 5 volt circuitry.

PCD-47B units are rated at pulling 3.00 AMPS of current on a 5 volt line in certain situations.

I have two units here that are identical in manufacturing batch revision, firmware revision etc ...

One works and one hangs ...

I believe the hang is related to electrical fault issues with the PCD-47B ( excessive current draw )

Investigations continue.

That's interesting. Of all the Microtech PCD-47B drives I've seen come through here (and it is a large number of them), I've never seen anything with the little wire running around like that. Any ideas on what that might be, Rohan?

but even the revision B like mine do u see without this hand made jumper?

still no news... i try to solder some new wires and minijack in order to check that "jump" as on/off.... still now no news... i try some combination but still nothing... sometimes the unit pcd47b turn on, sometimes not, it depends of the settings...
sometimes it read the files sometimes not... but never been able to save (f.u.c.k. that.... )

I suppose my advice would be to get a PCD-47B that someone hasn't soldered a bunch of wires to.
That would kind of worry me.
