Looking to get started, but I have a question...

Alright,

I'm looking to purchase a 1000. The question is though, should I go with an online retailer, or a physical retailer, or buy a used one online?

Another question is, does anyone know of a physical retailer in NYC thats some what knowledgeable about mpcs? Like a smaller type store thats not a chain like Sam Ash, or Guitar Center?

i bought off of ebay, but if you dont want to take chances with ebay, i'd buy from GC or maybe Sweetwater

unless you get a really good deal on a used one, i'd buy new. the mpc will (probably) by a central piece of equipment in your set up. it's worth having it in top condition.

With online merchants like ebay or amazon, most likely you get what you paid for. Sometimes its a rip-off to shell out money for a beat up, worned out device. And sometimes you can come out winning a mint MPC for a fraction of the original price. Its a gamble.

I would just get a brand new one from those big named sellers like Musician's Friend, Sam Ash, GC, etc. because if something is wrong or you just don't like it, you can send it back and get something else. And those stores offer coverage after the warranty, so if in 3yrs after purchase, something does go wrong, you send it back and they fix it or replace it free.

If you buy anything off eBay and aren't comfortable with fixing if yourself, consider purchasing a Squaretrade warranty.

I would imagine if you would need to have it repaired, Squaretrade would have you send it direct to Akai or they would send it on your behalf.

I have one more question though, If I go to a store today and want to buy a 1000 will it have the new style pad sensors? Or will I have to upgrade it myself?

I got mine from hip hop tools. Came with the memory and hard drive upgrade, tutorial, and a few sample libraries.

You'll pay $1100, but the bonus stuff makes it worth the extra dollars you'll have to put out.

I also have a question.... i have loaded all the beats onto my mpc and everything and staryed a new sequence and an unused track. I try recording and even overrecording and neither work. I do not know why as someone was helping me earlier and it was recording the sound. Let me know if you can help. It may be something easy i am just new with it. And also it isnt muted
