I'm pretty sure he meant 200-300 Australian dollars, hence the earlier statement regarding australian dolars....

I think the idea is cool and it is a good skeleton for building a killer software sampling drum machine/sequencer groove box. Right now though, it is very restricted in all those areas due to the software being deprived of many basic features you would expect from such a device.
I disagree with the wishes that it be a stand alone box. It would not be what it is. You already have Akai and Roland building hardware samplers. This product is software with a dedicated midi pad controller with bi-directional feedback. What makes it special is that it IS software. The dedicated midi controller solves the big missing link in software plug-ins. This part is what is new and was done superbly. The controller really interacts and makes it an instrument that is intuitive and fun to use. Unfortunately, the software has a long way to go to match the functionality of an MPC. I think of it as more an excellent concept than a complete product. It could have been a head turner at a science fair but its not finished enough for real world use IMO.
Right now it's best use is as an expensive midi controller for Guru, BPM or Ableton Live.

They still need to make some tweaks to the software, but I've never had any piece of gear that had such
a fast workflow.
It's the conepct I wanted my 4k for.. a sampler that can hold huge amounts of samples
with this, I can tag my entire sample/sound library for use inside maschine. And I can browse it from the controller, no need to look at the computer, but I can if I want.
I don't know man... if you're not trying to control a room full of gear, it's the way to go. MPC is still the best option for controlling multiple keyboards and rack modules I think.
But, at this point, I can't see myself ever buying another mpc... not that I'll sell my 4k, not sure, but I don't use it.
I can trim my samples from this controller, it's very quick to add fx to each sound, adjust the pitch, start end, all that stuff.
I wish it was easier to layer samples from the controller.
this thing is definitely more than just another midi controller, you're not getting any software that is this integrated with a control outside of maschine.
I think they will continue to develop it, and some of the features they are bringing in the next updates are crazy
I to would like it to host it's own vsts or even just other NI plugs...if it did that I'd have no need to use ableton anymore.
I'm not saying it didn't have some initial problems, but I never ran into any bugs or crashing, only some limitations with the sample editing (which I don't use much)
I think once it gets timestretch and better midi implementation it's going to be even better.
the midi out is cool, but I don't like the idea of loading a sequencer inside of another sequencer... that's why they need to continue to develop it as a standalone with the ability to load as a plugin for folks that want to do that.
The sequencer is nice and I can get the same feel I'm used to in my 4k... I keep the quantize off in both. The pads were a lil stiffer but I got use to them, they are responsive so it's all good.
The sounds aren't bad at all, they are usable, but like anything that just depends on your tastes.
for years I was a hardcore hardware only dude, only this year have I embraced the software side of things, and maschine is a major part of that.
I also use it as a general midi controller
