i first thought my mpc was broke already

wud love if someone answered the few other questions i asked in the thread aswell :)

i noticed another problem earlier when i made a beat with some of my friends:
i tried to resample a snare drum consisting of 2 different snare drum samples on the same pad, cuz i put several effects and stuff on it and wanted to have the effect section cleared for some other drums i would add later. so i solo'ed the snare drum track, went to RECORD via MODE + PAD5, put the source to main out and started recording. during the short recording of the few snare hits, everything sounded fine. but when i listened to the sample after recording (you know, in the screen where you can choose retry, play, keep etc.), it sounded very QUIET, much more quiet than it went the whole time before recording. and when i go intro TRIM mode (MODE + PAD6), i cud also see that theres a small gap of nothing / no audio signal in the very beginning of the sample, where the snare drum should normally have started immediately. is that normal? what can i do about it to have the re-sampled sample as loud as the one before?

normalize the resampled snare, simple as that. u can also crop out the bit of silence at the beginning by changing the start/end points and using the discard tool

i tried assigning a shaker (default sound) to the 16 levels (velocity) and seem to have a similar problem, as in when i play 2 pads closely one after another, the sound from playback is not in tune with what i originally played. is this also the result of phasing? or something different?

you need to filter either sample so they don't phase out, similar frequencies will phase out if layered incorrectly. that's why you filter then layer, resample, filter and layer again, lol!

the way i look at filtering (drum sounds in particular) is low to high, but then again think of the instrument and frequency range of that instrument and where it should sit in the mix..

program mode EXAMPLE and pre-filter guesstimates
___________
pad a-1 -(low thud/808/turntable bump) -high pass/big low pass
pad a-2 -(mid range kick) -high pass/low pass
pad a-3 -(tuned up ^^kick or dif. kick) -low pass
pad a-4 -(shaker/vinyl air/static etc.) -big low pass

if you can understand that as a guide for layering four sounds at once..

but first choose the right sounds, then you will barely need to do much to know what sounds good.
peace!

i'm currently using JJ OS3. i've tried messing with the filters and layers >mode>slider, but they don't seem to do anything to the samples. am i missing something here? only 'tune' changes the sample's pitch, but some samples don't seem to change pitch when i mess with the slider. is this because some of the samples are oscillations and therefore cannot be changed somehow?

also, when i change the pitch some samples play faster. how can they be time-stretched again to fit the original bpm or is this not possible in the free JJ OS?

sorry for these noob questions as you can see i'm new here and still learning, this is a great forum. if anyone could guide me in the right direction that'd be great thanks

*btw thanks for the suggestion but what do you mean by resampling over and over? aren't the tune/filter/layer settings immediately changed when the sliders are moved?
