Does anyone know if there is a mod that allows you to be able to turn off the 60's LCD when you don't need to see the screen?

It's such a dope feature on samplers and I was wondering if anyone has heard of it being done to MPC's.

The 3000 has it, it can be done, but backlights are cheap and easy to replace, I don't think you'll save that much doing this.

You could replace the contrast pot with one of the same value with a push pull function to disconnect the power to the El FOil backlight, it would be a lot better than adding an extra switch.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering about, if they could modify the contrast knob in that way.

My whole thing is I haven't soldered anything in like 11 years and when my backlight finally goes it'll cost an arm and a leg to send it out to be replaced. I really wanted to stave those costs off as long as I could and I figured that mod would allow me to do so.

But if you say that it's not worth it then I'll just forget about it.

You only have to solder two connections, 20 bucks at radio shack will get you all you need save the backlight. The backlight costs about 40 bucks.

If you feel comfy opening the mpc, replacing the backlight isn't hard.

a little intimidating, but easy chit.

Aight cool. Cuz I do open the 60 and mess around. I installed the scsi and once disassembled the screen to see how hard it would be to replace (some of those screws are in weird places).

I'll take you guys' word for it that it's easy to replace. Perhaps by the time I have to replace it I'll be less worried about messing this thing up (I've only had it for a couple months so I still baby it).

Thanks.

That's standard on the 3000, not a mod.

You could mod it, but I wouldn't bother.
