using computer speakers

i've done a search but couldn't find anything..

i've got an mpc 500 that i'm trying to hook up to computer speakers.

i couldn't find a cable that went from a 1/8 jack to 2 1/4 plugs, so i got something that goes from a 1/8 jack to 2 RCA plugs, and then 2 RCA jack to 1/4 plug converters. i just set it up but i'm not getting any sound out of the speakers. is it not going to work because of the RCA adapter i'm using? i can't figure out what else could be causing the problem.

I don't see why your setup wouldn't work.

You are connected to the Output of the MPC 500 and not the input, right?

Are you sure the sound is turned on in the MPC -- can you hear anything with headphones.

Ok now, what type of plug are you using to connect the 500 to the speakers? A male 1/8'' to male rca OR female 1/8'' to male rca?

Because I would have just gotten a 1/8'' to 1/4'' adapter and directly connect the speakers to the 500 through the headphone output. Assuming that the speaker's plug out is a 1/8'' male.

the computer speakers have a 1/8 male plug. i've got that going into a female 1/8 jack that turns into 2 male RCA plugs. then i've got 2 female RCA jack to 1/4 plug converters.

i thought about getting an adapter that went from 1/8 directly to 1/4, but couldn't find one that doesn't require threads on the 1/8 plug. i'm going to take a look for one today and if i find it i'll probably just take the 1/8 jack to RCA plugs adapter back.

Dude I had this challenge also. Ensure the 1/4 plug converters are mono NOT stereo.

but i got it hooked up just using a 1/8 to 1/4 adapter with the headphone jack

now i've got another question..

i have a turntable with a line signal, so i can hook it up directly to the MPC. will the RCA - 1/4 adapters for the turntable need to be mono as well? or could stereo work?

Do not use computer speakers! They don't do shit for your mixes. Save up or scan craigslist for a decent pair of active studio monitors.

yea man, Id rather use headphones over computer speakers. Honestly Id rather use ANYTHING over computer speakers.

I have a computer speak set which is made my CV. The frequencies on the speakers are equal to that of a low end pair of Mackies. I hear what your saying though... computer speakers are usually tinny and crap.

does anyone know the answer to this question:

i've got a turntable with a line signal, so i'm trying to hook it up straight to the MPC.

i've got some female RCA jack to 1/4" male plugs, but they're stereo.. will these work, or do i need mono converters instead of stereo?

unless the TT has a built in phono pre you would need to purchase one to boost up the signal.

it can be switched from either phono or line.
