Formatting CF cards

Hello,
I just bought a Kingston 2 GB CF card, but I have plenty of issues:
- When I save/load it is painfully slow in browsing
- 97% of the times, saving/load fails.

I formatted it on my PC then I put it in MPC as I could not figure out how to format it on the MPC.

What is the best way to deal with a new CF card?

Am I doing something wrong or could it be a card issue?

when i bought my mpc there was a manual in the box. take it, open it, go to page 97, smile.

My fellow forum-member, I'm not so stupid as not to be able to follow some instructions, but thanks for your helpful sarcasm.

As I said, for some reason the card can't be formatted in the MPC as it hangs, I was wondering if I was doing something wrong or if some brands of CF do not work properly...

It hangs after you start formatting?

Yes, and saving/loading takes ages.
It works fine with the CF that came with the Mpc.

have you tried another brand besides the akai card?

Have you checked the card for errors? Tried it with anything else. Like revolverfish says try another card to establish the cause. Hope it's not the mpc. I defragmented my cf card on with my laptop and i noticed read and write times were slower afte that. You should be able to format the card in the mpc though. Can you access the card via usb? If it's slow via usb but normal via acf card reader you'll know that somethings wrong at the mpcs end.

before anything remove the card from the MPC and check inside the slot to be sure you havent bent any pins. You stated that it worked fine with the card it came with but Im not sure if you tried it again after experiencing issues with the new card.

It's a bit of a mistery.
The card works fine with my digital camera or with my PC, but not on the MPC, I tried the card I had before again and it still works fine.
What I've noticed is that it's a "normal" CF card, not a higher speed one, so it might be that the size and the type of the card is the source of the issue.
I'll try to borrow or steal a higher speed card from a friend of mine and see...

And I'm still not sure wheter it was sarcasm or irony, it largely depends on the context, expression, tone of the voice and similar, and they don't transfer that well over a post.

Mistery solved!
I peeked into the CF slot and noticed that 2 pins were missing, the firts and the last of the bottom row.
I still have no idea on why with the default card I can save and load without any problem, but now I know what to do, order a spare part and fix it.
By the way, has any of you done this before? Is it difficult to change the cf slot?
Any instructions?

I knew it...damn that sucks but its a common issue.
