Grandprix,
My recommendations are: 1) you get a soundcard for your pc if you don't already have one for your vaio laptop. 2) You buy a mixer, they aren't absorbitant amounts of money channels are cheap so get a fair amout of channels. A 16/4 is a good choice. If you have the money get an average to above average mixer; 'reasons being, is so when you output from your mixer into your soundcard you will have good sound quality. You will probably be getting more gear along with your Mpc this is why I recomend multiple channels, it is the biggest pain to have to get off your ass and move 1/4 cords to different inserts. With the mixer you will be able to plug RCA's into your receiver. 3) I think It comes with a usb cord, but why not make sure and check the specs? 4) The additional RAM is recomended, but not essential. essential Items to purchase along with your 1 K are a soundcard which is the most important if your wish to be able to record your songs and burn them to disk, effects and editing options are not the 1 k's forte, this is another reason for the soundcard so you can edit and tweak your songs to your delight. Next, Id purchase the mixer, the memory last, and don't by akai's save money, and by a universal 256 mb ram. when detected by mpc it will show up as 128. Some expandable RAM's have been tested and successfully installed by members of this forum. I followed their lead and saved money. So do a little digging around the forum and same some money. I would post a link, but I feel that these little fungi I just ate are making me feel funny.
