Is it a good idea to partition the drive into many parts or should it be left as one? Also should I format it as Fat32 or NTFS?

Found out yesterday that it won't get here till August 4. It is being ground shipped and not next day air. Oh well -may be I can use that time to look for an HD on sale and some RAM to max it out.

BTW, I have quite a few Akai multisampled instruments CDs. If I wanted to get a head start and drop them on the HD and organize them into folders like "synths" "piano" "drums" "orchestra", etc. -what steps should I take to accomplish this. I have CDXtract, Extreme Sample Conveter, and Awave Studio 9.1. Which one should I use to create patches for the MPC4000? Can someone give me some step by step instructions? Thanks in advance.

You can format the HD internally after installing ,by going to the load or save pages,F2 utility,then scroll through the options at the top and select full format,make sure u use full format on a new HD ,also it will take quite a while to do with 120gb,
The 4k uses FAT32 format so you can use a pc/mac to format HD's for use ,but its best to use the 4k.
I dont use partions on the internal hd,also havnt heard of anyone doing this on a internall HD?anyone?can see some benifits from this mos def with bigger hd's but imo a good folder structure is all ya need really.

If the Sample cds your using are akai s5/6000/mpc3000/2000xl format programs etc wont need converting,same goes for roland and emu cds,
you could load them into ram via the Cd drive one at a time and save to hd using the 4k to create folders and a usb qwerty keyboard to name them,or use Ak.sys via usb to drag and drop from your Pc directly to the 4ks hd,and naming/creating folders etc..1
Also after formating the HD ,u could put it in a external HD enclosure or in your pc and drag and drop them in, if its a oneoff massive transfer thats the quick the way.
Im not into the whole converting thing sure someone else can give advice on that one but chicken systems translator is a good one but ithink what ya got might cover it.

Aww yeah i say only 80 gig not cause of price,... the 4k dosnt have any diskutilies,so to me it makes sense to keep the size down mos def when ya can back up to a big external HD,and i notice most Dps24 peeps over at dps world are only users are only running 60/80 gigs,just my two pence!but im parinoid about hds after 10gb of data corupted on my old seagate HD!':x'

Just got it delivered today folks (The MPC that is)....
And let me tell you, that sucker looks so sweet (and intimidating). It's better than I thought. Meaning it's in excellent condition, comes complete with 272mb RAM and a 60gb HD. I know it will take me quite a bit of time to tame this beast, but I'm hoping I'll be having lots of fun in the process. I did manage to sample my voice in it and cook up a quick little pattern sequence thus far. Now it's time to hit the manual to learn the basics.

BTW, I have an extra 120gb HD, does anyone recommend that I replace the internal 60gb drive with it? I have a bunch of of Akai discs and Acid loops I'm thinking about archiving onboard for instant loading w/o using the computer. Is that a good idea?
