Do you DJ out or strictly make beats only?

Lately i've landed a friday night residency djing, its my first gig and its really great to buy records with this night in mind!

How many of us in here are playing out or just production only?

i do both but its rare that i DJ with my wax.


i dont have any new vinyl, so only time i use it live is if im doing a real old school night for an older crowd. Even then i use vinyl and CDs.


I have a lot of vinyl but i mainly use it just to sample from, and to listen to

loads of vinyl but no1 ever asked me to dj, so yeah I have to answer that with no

dj'ing at home but this week I should be playing hiphop waxxx out, it's my first gig too stressing a little bit though

i do both,i ONLY spin VINYL,i'm not into that new technology.plus i only spin for over 25-30 crowd they tend to appreciate what i play, i had a bar gig a couple yrs ago,i always had some young chicks tellin me to play some new music ,they were 21 if that,but most of my crowds are older anyways, i still try to stay in the limelite,but it's hard,so right now i just do mixes at hoe and post them up,it's better i guess,people down load my mixes and listen and party to them,can't beat that.

plus i sample alot too,

props to you beginning cats,some words DONT LET ANYONE TELL WHAT TO PLAY.inless your getting paid by that person.

you'll get people tellin you what to play cause they dont want to dance or what not,then you switch it up and boom theres your dance floor gone and people upset, then comes over the boss and ask you why did you change i've seen it happen.only one can tell you what to play is the one that pays you ,trust that. it's only that one person who ask's that's drunk or just not getting any play. everyone else is in the zone with you

djing for 20+ years. beat making is a minor sideline. i only play vinyl, and nothing much after 1992, just american disco, house and pre-84 hip hop. we did a warehouse party on the weekend. it was packed till 6am.

the world is full of really, really good tracks, there's no need to play anything that doesn't really move you.

i had to really change digging styles when i started looking for samples rather than looking for dance tracks.

Best producers were DJs first. The idea of 'making beats' without putting in time in a DJ is almost blasphemous to me. They're so interrelated.

I dj with abelton live

make beats and produce using mpc4000 w/digital performer 4.6 and abelton live 7


no more wax djing for me. my next dj piece is TORQ

I believe TORQ is better than serato, and I have used both.
