EVERYONE PLEASE READ THIS!!!

What up,

Im buying an MPC2000XL(blue Model) this monday. Anyway the guy im buying it from is a guy called DHL Kid on ebay. Some of you must have seen his auctions on ebay before. Anyway hes a guy from Hong Kong(China) and he sells ALOT of pro audio stuff on ebay...like Korg tritons, Motifs, Mpc's..etc I checked his feedback and hes done over 200 sales on ebay and has NO negative feedback..so i think it should be ok..but theres something shady about him. First he says he can only ship SOME of his products to the U.S. and that he accepts paypal on some items and not on others. He also asked me a hundred questions about how i found him...etc And just the way he comes off is as if hes doing something illegal. Any way im in Hong Kong right now for work and i contacted him since he lives in Hong Kong too and he agreed that he would bring the MPC2000XL to my hotel and let me test everything before i buy it. He claims he is in Japan right now and he will bring me an MPC direct from japan this coming Monday. So what i need to know is how can i test the machine to make sure everything is ok. What should i look for? What should i test? has any one heard of fake or bootleg mpc's?? Not to sound paranoid but the chinese do bootleg everything..hehe anyway im guessing the only reason he is so paranoid is because maybe he ilegally imports/exports the mpc's directly from japan and doesnt pay taxes/duty fees...but im still a little worried...i dont want to buy a messed up mpc...So please ANYONE help me and tell me what to look for!

two things i can think of off the top of my head is to make sure it reads the ram correctly (ive had trouble getting ram to work on my jawn - currently i have only 18 megs reading right), and to make sure the scsi port works. if someone unplugged the scsi wrong it can blow a little fuse thats rather costly to replace, and not user installable.

Make sure all the pads are functioning,you can move through the fields with the cursor,the digit and data wheels are functional,record and play functions all work,and i'm not sure but i think they use a different voltage there so your plug may be a little different so make sure you will be able to power up once you get back to the states.......GOOD LUCK kid.....Peace.

nah man i wouldnt worry buot a "bootleg" mpc. No ones ever said anything bout that it would be too hard. if it turns on boots up and all the buttons work u should be gravy.

Ive actually bought a "Vintage Archives" moss chip for my Karma from this guy off of e-bay. Everything worked and stillo works good. He seems to be legit.

the one thing i hate about music equipment on ebay, is that sometimes you get people like me selling equipment.....I take care of my shit, but because im not an everyday ebay seller, my selling rate is like 2. And then you get some dickhead who sold 200 things, but he doesnt know shit about he equipment, and it might be faulty.

best thing is to ask questions, but questions pertaining to the auction, not the equipment, you dont wanna sound like a newb.....and to look at all feedback. But if there is a buy it now price, thats is better as well. BUT REAL pictures is usually a for sure that they are serious. IF there is just a linked picture from the manufactures web site, you probably cant trust it to be accurate description.....if they are selling 1000 equipment and are too lazy to take a picture, **** em!
