USB 250 Zip Drive will not read MPC 2000XL files

Word up! I tried Googling for an answer or resolution before posting here. I few years ago I was having problems reading MPC files on my PC (Windows XP) on an USB 250MB Zip Drive. The zip disk does not even show up in the computer. Any tips would be great.

Format the zip in pc, fat/fat16, use ONLY 8 character long filenames, that zip can now be read in the mpc and pc. Done.

pc can't recognize 2k/2kxl mpc formatted media.

the media has to be firstly formatted in the pc, then, it can be read by both.
