Anyways a few questions

People say the sequencing on these are a bit dodgy because the processor can't handle too many processes at once, if the ASRX was sequenced from another hardware or software sequencer would this still be an issue? Is it any good as a stand alone workstation?

MP3, how hard is it to get that encoder you're talking about? I have a chance to get one with upgraded ram for $150 Australian (which is about US$117) but one of the encoders need replacing. I've got no soldering skills at all.
If that encoder is easy to get i might buy the ASRX and try and see if any of my mates can fix it

Anything else good or bad i need to know?

What's up man. In regards to your question on the sequencer, it really depends on the OS that you are using. When I purchased the black one..i went ahead and got the os upgrade to 2.67. I believe that there is a 3.00 OS. There shouldn't be any problem slaving it to another device for sequencing. Additionally you should have no problems with sequences provided that you have the most recent OS. So stand alone is okay ...thats just my opinion.

As far as the rotary encoders are concerned, i'm not too sure I havent had to replace mine. I'm sure Im due for an upgrade on the encoders. Given the described result on the link posted by MP3 it wouldnt be a bad idea. I encourage you ( if you havent already ) to join us on the asr x usergroup on yahoo . Alot of knowledgeable cats on there on the machine. Peace

Cheers guys

How can you update the OS?
I think I'll buy it, heard lots of good things about the sampler and fx sections.

Im a big Ensoniq guy, so out of curiosity I bought my first ASR X PRO last month, been messing with it every other day for past couple weeks. Ive been getting more and more used to it. Ive been sequencing with it as well, but will eventually MIDI it through my 60. Only grips about mine is my right encoder, when I turn it backwards I have to do it real slow or else the values will move foward instead. Not sure wuts up w/ that. The sequencer is cool but randomly it will add an extra bar to my sequences, even when the edit screen says 4. But that only happens once in awhile. All in all I like it, Dope sampler & FX.

I actually just bought another PRO online last week for $90. The record button is messed up on it, but I kinda wanna see if I can fix it and resell. Bought 4 encoders too, gonna try to install them on both my units. Not the best at soldering though. haha. Oh well from what I hear/read, its pretty simple.
